Happened again this Sunday AM, 3rd time. Took to dealer twice and taking it in again this morning. Reminds me of when I was teenage and never knew if my latest junk car was gonna start. Bot a NWISE portable starter kit, good thing.

The battery may be damaged from repeatedly going into low charge state. A battery tender is a good idea if you don't drive for a few days or do a lot of short trips. It can maintain lead acid battery health and prolong battery lifetime.

Keeping your jump box under the back seat for no-start situations is always a good idea. Use the jump points under the hood, not at the 12v battery posts. Much easier & safer to use than having to line up another car next to yours and using jumper cables. Check the jump box battery's charge every 6 months or so.

Do yourself a favor and spend the $200 on a direct replacement Diehard Gold battery and replace your Motorcraft battery. It resolved the Deep Sleep issues on my 2022 and 2023 Mavericks.. I posted a long thread about the replacement here last year... The only tool required is a 10mm wrench (and a light)...

good luck...

Hi there, Ted. This deep sleep concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Maverick . Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.To send a private message, just click on our username and select "Start Conversation".

Best explanation of why these issues are occurring and info on option three can be found here.

From everything I've seen on the forums, you basically have three options to solve the issue.

1. Take your car back to the dealership every time the battery dies until they eventually get tired of it and replace it under warranty. Expect it to take three to ten visits and you may have to do it multiple times if the replacement battery has the same issues.

2. Hook it up to a battery tender every time it's going to be parked more than a day or two. Minimum of once a week.

3. Bite the bullet and replace the battery with the one the truck and battery management system was designed for.

Ford's official recommendation has always been, if you get the deep sleep message, drive the truck more. Apparently an hour and a half a day still isn't enough to recharge the battery, as some people have experienced.

As to why they have refused to acknowledge this issue, someone posted that in order to change the battery size or type, they would have to resubmit the vehicle to have the fuel economy recertified. Which if true, there's no way that's going to happen, hence the refusal to acknowledge the battery issue.

It has been reported that putting in a good quality AGM battery resolves the issue.

I agree with you. Ford will never acknowledge their batteries are defective and insufficient capacity. I bought an AGM battery to solve my problems.

What's interesting it that the Ford Motorcraft Hybrid battery is made in Spain, and the (2) Diehard Gold batteries that resolved the DS issues in both my trucks are made in Mexico (where the Maverick is built.) You would think it's cheaper to walk across town and get a quality battery locally than it is to put a battery on a ship and transport 6200 miles and 4 week's time to Mexico from Spain.

I'm sure with all the million and one monitoring reports that get sent to Ford from our trucks that they know almost to the one how many are experiencing the battery issues. And I'm sure they've done the math and figure out they'll make more money in the long run saving the $0.0037 per battery with the cheaper ones than it'll cost them for the single digit percentage of people who will actually go back to the dealer the three to twelve times it takes to get it replaced under warranty.

Just like they did the math and decided it made more sense financially to screw over the ~200 people who order their trucks two years ago that got hit with the gas tank recall by holding them and not fixing them until after Thanksgiving than it did to make 200 extra gas tanks during the production run.

672 days and counting...

Enjoy the rabbit hole....

Steve Lehto - Lemon law attorney

tldr: Lemon laws kick in under very specific (and extreme) circumstances and not just because an issue comes up multiple times.

Or a 4th option: When you get a "Deep Sleep" message hook up a charger overnight and the issue goes away for quite some time.

Be sure to attach the black negative charger connector to the side of the current sensor that is not on the battery post. Or charge from under the hood on the jump terminals.

I have had my MY23 Ford Maverick Hybrid for 7 1/2 months and have only had one "Deep Sleep" message. And doing the above fixed it.

I guess it depends on how long of a time frame you consider "solved" to be. My semi-educated guess is that option four will slowly become option two as the battery becomes more and more damaged. It seems like most people who have gotten the "Deep Sleep" message will adjust or change something that temporary makes it go away only for it to get progressively worse as time goes on.

But hey, if I'm wrong, it cost you nothing but the unexpected inconvience of your time and the price of a charger, assuming you don't already have one. If I'm right, you still have the same options to pick from later, so there's honestly not really a downside for you to start with that one and see how it goes.
