Am flat towing my Maverick, and often receive a message from Ford Pass about deep sleep. On several, but not all occasion, have had to use the jump box to get things going. The last time upon arrival at RR Park the Mav was dead. After jumping, the message screen indicated vehicle was in flat to mode, but it wasn't. Nothing I could do to clear it. The vehicle did, however operate normally.
Drove Maverick to Ford dealership near Cincinnati to diagnose the electronic issue. Service Advisor was reluctant to look at it, saying they were covered in work. After I explained the issue, he stated the problem was something associated with towing. I explained I had already towed it 2,000 miles without issue until 4 days ago. (at that time in Indiana, the local Ford dealer stated during a telephone conversation that an SSM 51725 would resolve the 'Deep Sleep' issue I had experienced, however they were near closing at the time.)
During the check-in process, I offered to show Service Manager the many fault messages in Ford Pass reporting low voltage, but he declined to look at them. When talking to the tech, he explained it was an electronic glitch caused by low voltage in the auto battery. His fix was to disconnect the battery and wait 10 minutes. They would not honor the warranty nor replace the battery. They did, however charge me $185.
Service performed to include road test, all operated normally. Drove back to campground in the rain.

You’re a lucky one. My new battery and diagnostics for a factory battery was over $400 the dealer alleging the battery maintainer was the cause of the battery problem.

Tens of thousands of battery maintainers required on toads without problems but that’s what they alleged. It is supposed to be towable and it’s a necessary after market accessory.

I’ll be sending you the membership card to the “not a happy camper” with the known battery shenanigans club. No dues.

I've mentioned this a couple times on previous threads since I got here, but it's a TSB and FORD needs to replace the AGM battery with a higher capacity one. It's a big thing on the Escapes and this is the exact same setup.

https://www.fordescape.org/forums/4g-battery-engine-and-technical-discussion.272/

It's a constant thing with these setups and rather than update the production models with the better battery, FORD issues a TSB for something that should be a recall.

Call your dealer and good luck. Some report it being an easy deal and others, like me, report no luck trying to get them to replace it. They just want to keep charging it and refuse to acknowledge the problem.

If you replace the battery yourself, you will have to update with ForScan

Also, ignore the replies from FORD on this forum. All they do is look up your VIN and go "uh, yup, it's got this recall and you can access your account for dealer service (insert link here)". Better than most manufacturers are doing, but solves nothing in reality. They are fishing for data they don't need. They already know about the problems. It's like calling tech support and they ask you "have you tried restarting it?".

You guys are giving up your money way too easily. You paid for a new vehicle and a warranty. Stop letting the dealers and Ford walk all over you, especially for battery problems (that I've also had).

Take it from a guy who has been to two dealers 21 times, 5 of which were due to the airbag recall and damage caused by the tech to the interior.
