I did experience some weird symptoms with the '25 Lariat Lane Keeping with Adaptive Cruise Control on while driving into a construction area. The lines were all over the place and the truck darted left and right trying to stay centered. I only had the truck for three days, so I pressed the wrong button twice trying to turn off lane keeping. I inadvertently reduced the Adaptive Cruise following distance to minimum.

Moments later traffic came to an abruptly halt for a flagman. I didn't trust that the truck would stop, so I jabbed the brake. Unfortunately, my oily work boot slipped off and I stabbed the gas to the floor. By the time I realized and got my foot onto the brake it was too late and O had a minor fender bender with no air bag deployment.

I've been waiting since 2/11/25 for my Maverick to get a sensor wiring harness. I finally paid for a tech to come out and repair the harness last week since Ford won't ship any from Mexico. I'm told that I can pick up my truck on 5/27/25 now that everything is calibrated.

I won't drive it again in work boots and I bought non-slip pedals. I also bought a grille guard.

I guess it time for a poll.

Why would anyone attempt to drive through a construction zone with any of this equipment turned on? It's going to try to keep you between two lines----it doesn't know which two.

My brand new XLT which has Copilot 360 drifts partially across the center line or onto the shoulder before correcting, sometimes to cross over to (and past) the other. Is there something wrong or merely a limitation of the system. We have an Escape Titanium that stays right in the center hands-free.
Thanks much for the video, Glen. Couldn't tell, does your Maverick cross the center line or onto the shoulder before it steers you back into the lane you are in? Mine does. At least 2 feet. That's why I'm so concerned
I just experimented with my base XLT that has Lane Keeping only. If you don't have your hands on the wheel it will slightly cross the line on slight curves, and then make corrections to bring you back into the lane. But it is NOT designed to be "hands-free". Period. Hence it warns you to steer when it senses that you aren't touching the steering wheel. Neither is your Escape Titanium (I have one, too), which has Lane Centering and does a better job because it has more sophisticated cameras and technology, but it will warn you to steer if you are going commando (hands-free).

Lane-Keeping is designed to assist you with the task of staying in your lane, but it's not intended to be hands-free like "Blue Cruise", which is Ford's hands-free system that I believe is on the Mach-E.

It also depends on the quality of the lane markings. Poorer quality markings will degrade the sensing thereby affecting the responsiveness.

Had exactly the same experience....temporary stripes were all screwed and had to battle the steering wheel to keep in my lane. When I see screwed up lanes I turn off the feature.

WTF! I hope you were ticketed.

HRG
That's why they call it an accident and not a deliberate. There are no citations for human error in a no fault state. I hope that you never have to suffer the embarrassment of a minor collision then frustration of having your truck out of service for months over a part being installed daily in new trucks.

For what is worth, I've probably been driving accident free longer than you've been alive. That is until this Maverick pickup with all of is intelligent systems tried to assist. Also, let's test your reflexes after working 36 hours in three days and commuting more than 300 miles in an unfamiliar vehicle. Time searching for functions or buttons to disable systems reduces situational awareness.

Judge lest not ye be judged.

Exactly, my truck darted left and right in the lane like a drunkard wrestling the steering wheel! It's hard to find the correct button from memory that you have not yet developed while the wheel is jerking. This distracted me from the developing emergency braking just ahead. I had my foot on the brake, ready to apply as needed, then, oh crap! 😪

I'll take the truck on a long 2,200 mi trip next weekend to test and familiarize myself with the assisted driving and safety systems. Also to help break in the drivetrain and do some upkeep on our family home in FL.

I know I am personally not a fan of the driver assistance stuff in this stage of their development. Adaptive cruise seems pretty well sorted and it great to use at times and other times a real annoyance. The lane centering/auto steering stuff has been pretty poor for my use case. I drive lots of rural two lane roads and there is always lots of stuff to swerve and avoid and the "assistance" loses its "istance" and reveals what it really is. On the interstate and major roads the lane centering is OK provided it isn't constantly nagging to tug on the wheel. Overall it has been generally more annoying that useful to me so I just don't use it. It is generally less stressful to just drive. Basic cruise control works pretty well.

If they ever get these technologies to where they can see the road, can follow the speed limits, can slow for curves and reduced speed zones, and can actively steer around obstacles etc and do it reliably I can see where I would be willing to use it. But subscribe to it and keep paying for it? Nah... The subscription thing don't work for me.

It wasn't my intention to do so. Also, I had been driving through this zone for months and then that day is when I discovered the lane restriping mess. I also had no idea the truck would go bonkers as it was only my third day driving it.

I had reduced my cruise to the speed limit of the zone to be sure that I didn't speed and was a safe following distance from cars ahead. It was an unfortunate event thankfully nobody was hurt, and I will familiarize myself better with the vehicle and systems in time.

Are these systems on the Maverick pay subscription? 🤔 I have no info on this.

Nope. I'm 7 years older than you. From 1990 thru 2023, I had a company-supplied vehicle, with a documented 1.2 million accident free miles. Nothing since then, and there might have been an accident around 1975, when you were still in diapers.

Nice try though.
