Dealing with Dealers...

We would like to find a dealer that will order a 2023 hybrid at or near MSRP. A couple of them have said they would sell at MSRP on orders. But when I ask if they are prepared to have someone ready when they open the order banks, like at 12:01 AM Eastern Time or 8AM Eastern time on Auguest 2nd so that I can get an order in as soon as they open all I get is sales talk.

I tell them I will pay $500 over that MSRP if they will just pay someone to sit on the computer and plug in the order as soon as they can. I expect that anyone on the West Coast will get screwed in the ordering queue as the west coast dealers open up last in the country. They tell me something to the effect of just call on the Second and we will see what what is going on.

No preparing by taking our information or exactly what we want. No deposits, nothing.

If anyone knows of any dealers in Northern California that are prepared professionals please let me know.

This is where dealer (and regional) allocations come into play.

Say, for the sake of argument, 70% of approved first day orders come from east coast dealers. That in no way translates to 70% of the universe of allocations being assigned to builds for those same dealers.

Did not Ford announce that orders are not going to be counted in the dealer allocations for the Maverick?

From what Tim Bartz had said that allocations still play a role. It's some convoluted bs system that I sure don't understand. But if you switch dealers to put in your 23 order you will loose your place in line.

I got the first hybrid in the Sac region and ordered through Roseville. Paid MSRP. My deposit was included in my payment. I was definitely not the first to order too.

May I ask for a favor? Would you get someone to help and take two broom sticks and measure the maximum width of the Maverick with the mirrors folded? I want to confirm the actual width on a Hybrid to make sure it matches the written specifications.

Out 1922 garage door here in San Francisco is so tight that when we thought about buying a Honda Ridgeline 2 years back we could not as the mirrors were going to hit the door frame.

The thing I am trying to do is find a dealer who will take serious the idea of placing an order at the exact time the banks open up. So far, I am finding they could care less...

This week we will have to start driving around and see if any of them will provide more service than just to tell me to drop by on the 2nd.

Hell, I am willing to pay a little over MSRP for that service but they do not seem to care.

What I do not get is, assuming it is true, if that ordered Mavericks are not going to be counted in the dealer inventory then they have a vested interest in taking all orders. Some percentage of those orders will not be picked up by the customers and then they can sell them on the lot. In essence increasing their allocations.

A dealer that gets serious about lining up customers for orders, having their paperwork and deposits on their desks on August 1st and having an employee sitting in front of a computer at what ever hour Ford opens up the banks, even if it is one in the morning will make some money.

Funny, I thought that was the whole point of being in business...

I have not been able to get confirmation from any dealers in the Sac region that will be selling '23s at MSRP. I think they've realized the interest in the Mav is still increasing so they're including ADM while the iron is hot.

Doubt you get any to bite. Pretty silly to think a dealership would open up at midnight for $500. Just make an appointment for 9 am when most dealers open to be sure it actually happens (because I could see someone saying they will then just go it when they open and scrape your $500). Can't imagine it will change things that much for you.

I think your plot to game the system is just a folly. You can be the first to order, but that doesn't mean you'll be the first one to get built. Just place the order on Aug 2. If you can't find a dealer who will do MSRP, order from a known dealer on here like Long McArthur, Granger, Chapman and have it shipped.

James, for that kind of service I would check with the internet super sellers - they have a different model. Tim Bartz of Long McArthur Ford in Salinas Kansas and/or Zach Westrum at Grainger Ford in Grainger, IA they are customer oriented. Zach has said they will run a special for the '23's (just not as good as the special for '22). I'm sure there are others. The discounts below msrp and the no bs salesmanship are worth flying out and driving back. I bought my Maverick from Grainger, who is 1,100 miles away - fantastic experience and until my local dealers change, I will buy no other way.

My wife is out riding one of our broomsticks so I used a tape measure. With the mirrors folded the maximum is 77 inches. That is a conservative estimate so definitely not more than that. The exact could be less. The specs say 77.9. Well, shit. Maybe give yourself 80?! The Mav will be great for the city. Hill descent and auto hold for those nasty hills!
