If the SAE spec is SC, SD, SF, SH, SJ .... it's definitely too old. Though I can't recall what is the latest and greatest, last I checked it was SM but that could have been between 3 and 10 years ago.

ETA:Well the bottle of QS I bought last year has SP on it, so it's at least got up to there.
Thanks - I’m SP also.

Thanks👍
There's nothing like that on my mobile 1 bottle 🤷‍♂️
What does the bar code read? I bought this Mobil One late last year - maybe the “924” on code is September 2024?

I’ve used Mobil One oil & filters happily for many years. This is my first Motorcraft branded oil & filter use.
Is there some reason in particular that you're using Motorcraft oil over some other synthetic oil that meets spec WSS-M2C961-A1?

I do my own oil/filter changes and have an extended warranty. Going to purchase oil/filters from my dealer to help document in their system and also keep the printed receipts. Just easier to keep track.

Once out of warranty it will be back to online purchases of Mobil One:)

Since oil is refined "used dinosaurs", dating is a non starter. I would say that if you bought 200,000 miles worth of oil changes, the last and first jug off the shelf would be the same. As to Motorcraft oil, they buy it somewhere and make a profit - you can too, skipping the profit. Sales on Amazon and Wal Mart will get you 5 gallon jugs, and any filter except Fram will be fine. Save the receipts if you want, or take pics. 2 cents spent... :)

Phillips 66 makes my 5W-30. I’m picky and prefer oil refined from Jurassic Period Dinosaurs. Oddly enough, their liquified remains don’t age as well with modern additive packages of which I am also picky about. That is why I like my Motorcraft oil fresher rather than stale. 3yrs in jug is the line I’ve drawn. Thank you much for your 2cents worth though:)

Motorcraft date code deciphering is tough to nail down. BITOG is populated with many batch code/date code threads on Mobil1, Penzoil, etc but zip on Motorcraft.

Maybe contact Motorcraft directly [[email protected]]as per this link:

If there is a date code it will be dot printed on the bottle. Anything stamped on the bottle would be the bottle mold date. The UPC doesn't change day to day. Look for a 4 digit number, a "Julian date" like 4167, which would be the 167th day of 2024. There is no standard for this format, they'd prefer you not really know what it means. Go ask on Bob is the oil guy about your specific bottle's code if you care that much.

Jeez, how do you guys dream up new stuff for me to worry about! I guess it's been a while since I did my own oil changes, here's a new bottle of QS I had on the shelf, they make the date code pretty easy to read.
