Curbed my beautiful rim and now worried about alignment

Reporting it to the police will probably not get you any resolution. You did appear to overcorrect so buy a new wheel and get an alignment. I understand your grief and he was in the wrong, but any insurance company will say that you are partly to blame simply because you were there.

What I see is a late reaction that quickly turns into a massive overreaction resulting in striking the curb and stopping in the middle of an active roadway. From the beginning, there is little confidence that the cross traffic will stop at a safe distance before the intersection

Not to tell you how to drive, but 1) the start looks faster than 40, 2) looks like you could have stopped in time as opposed to crossing over into oncoming traffic. But each to their own. Glad it’s only the rim.

While they definitely came out too far, you had time to slow down and brake. Hitting the curb is all on you though. That being said, I'd check the alignment and fix the wheel myself if I were you. I'm in NJ also, lmk if you need a wheel fix place.
