This is either not true for the 25 Tremor or Co-Pilot 360 but it absolutely uses the foot brake on its own. I can see the brake lights come on when I come up on slow traffic or a speed zone or a corner when using the cruise control, and I can feel the vibration on the long hills when the brakes are getting hot.
So that's not Cruise Control then.
That's Adaptive CC.
There is a difference.

And therefore your 25MY Tremor compared to 23MY XLT.

Cost is reason for difference - less sensors installed.

But - even for ACC (so really applies to plain CC), manual says...

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL PRECAUTIONS

Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
WARNING: You are responsible for controlling your vehicle at all times. The system is designed to be an aid and does not relieve you of your responsibility to drive with due care and attention. Failure to follow this instruction could result in the loss of control of your vehicle, personal injury or death.
Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
WARNING: Do not use adaptive cruise control on winding roads, in heavy traffic or when the road surface is slippery. This could result in loss of vehicle control, serious injury or death.
Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
WARNING: Pay close attention to changing road conditions such as entering or leaving a highway, on roads with intersections or roundabouts, roads without visible lanes of travel, roads that are unpaved, or steep slopes. Failure to follow this instruction could result in the loss of control of your vehicle, personal injury or death.
Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
WARNING: The system is not a crash warning or avoidance system.
Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
WARNING: Do not use the system when towing a trailer that has aftermarket electronic trailer brake controls. Failure to follow this instruction could result in the loss of control of your vehicle, personal injury or death.
Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
WARNING: Do not use tire sizes other than those recommended because this can affect the normal operation of the system. Failure to do so may result in a loss of vehicle control, which could result in serious injury.
Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
WARNING: Do not use the system with a snow plow blade installed.
Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
WARNING: In situations with poor visibility, such as fog, heavy rain or other inclement weather, you may need to override or completely switch off the system.
When Following a Vehicle
Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
WARNING: When following a vehicle that is braking, your vehicle does not always decelerate quickly enough to avoid a crash without driver intervention. Apply the brakes when necessary. Failure to follow this instruction could result in personal injury or death.

Hilly Condition Usage
Select a lower gear when the system is active in situations such as prolonged downhill driving on steep slopes, for example in mountainous areas.

And yet - the 25MY manual continues to amaze with this bit of seemly contradiction.

SWITCHING FROM ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL TO CRUISE CONTROL

Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
WARNING: Normal cruise control will not brake when your vehicle is approaching slower vehicles. Always be aware of which mode you have selected and apply the brakes when necessary.
  1. From the driver assistance menu, press Cruise Control. See Driver Assistance Menu.
  1. Press Normal Cruise Control.
Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
When you select normal cruise control the cruise control indicator replaces the adaptive cruise control indicator.The gap setting does not display, and the system does not respond to lead vehicles. Automatic braking remains active to maintain the set speed. The system remembers the last setting when you start your vehicle.

And this is the same as prior years Carlitos showed.
SETTING THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED

Ford Maverick Cruise control downhill acceleration {filename}
WARNING: When you are going downhill, your vehicle speed could increase above the set speed. The system does not apply the brakes.

Same, the hybrid is magical keeping speed downhill even with cruise off.

But it's 100% different powertrain than the Ecoboosts.
Ya - hybrid tranny provides an extra ability the EB doesn't have.
25MY actually shows an icon now, 24MY did not.

GRADE ASSIST - HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (HEV)

How Does Grade Assist Work
This feature helps maintain vehicle speed when driving down a slope. The system uses a combination of engine motoring and regenerative braking to maintain vehicle speed.
Note: You could hear engine speed increasing and decreasing. This is normal operation.
The system activates when all the following occur:
  • Your vehicle is on a downhill slope.
  • The selector is in drive (D).
  • You release the accelerator pedal.

So far I’ve never felt the need for this feature.
But yes I can see that it’s a nice touch.

To the EB responses - you don't get that feature - and you can't turn it off.
Ha!

So at least 2 things you don't get - Grade Assist, and 12VB charging system.

The Hybrid’s eCVT transmission & programming is very impressive. Rarely (ever?) hear of eCVT problems.

I think the Maverick Hybrid should have been nominated for “Truck of the Year” instead of the Lobo. The Lobo is a cool “blast from the past” but the Hybrid is the future I think.

Just use Manual Mode and paddles to keep it in the gear you need it in if you are driving in the mountains.
Sadly, paddles were not a thing on Mavericks until 2025, and even then they are limited to Lobos.

A few people have retrofitted them, and I want to do it eventually because downshifting for deceleration is pretty useful.

It's kind of funny the way that the Mavericks are sitting right now with the drivetrain selections. It's either one extreme or the other. Either have great acceleration or great MPG but nothing in between LOL

The compromise would be normal drive mode.
There is no free lunch.
You want spirited and quick driving, you're going to pay for it with less gas mileage.
If you want better gas mileage, you're going to pay for it with a slower roll.
With an EV, you end up paying for fast driving with less range, more energy used $$$$
for distance traveled.

I don’t know about that. Hybrids have great fuel economy, sure , but I was in a friends hybrid the other day (24 also, as mine) and it really surprised me!

Yep - the fastest passenger cars/trucks these days have motors not engines.

I find 70 mph down a medium hill with the control set at 55 unacceptable.
I'm sure that if you can explain how to stop this using only the accelerator pedal, I'm sure that ford will be all ears.

it's "cruise control", which is only control of the throttle. ACC uses more systems.
