I don't shop at Costco a lot, but get gas since it's 5 minutes away. Saves about 15 cents a gallon. The main reason I keep Costco though is for the rental cars. Most people don't know, but Costco rental car prices are actually about 25 to 30% cheaper than even using other promo codes. I rent a lot for my job and save easily $1000 a year just in that.

This might be the perfect solution.....get my Kroger points for buying the gift cards, and the Costco savings as icing on the cake! Awesome!

only members can buy gift cards and they cannot be used for gas.
great for shopping without a membership, buy as much as you want (w/visa or cash) no matter card value.

Yep if you get gas at costco be prepared to wait in the line, a lot of people buy gas there. Savings on gas alone isn't much so be prepared to shop for food also, more lines.
Get the citi credit membership card to get cash back. Think for gas it was 4%, restaurants 3%, cost purchases 2%, and everything else 1%. I could be wrong on the percentages, please check.

Walmart next to my house is the same price per gallon as Costco.
The only reason to have a Costco card is toilet paper and the fresh rotisserie CHICKEN

Their chicken pot pie is pretty damn good also

In Los Angeles, the average Costco's regular gas price is $4.30-$4.40. Everywhere else, it's almost $5/gallon if not like $5.05/gallon.

If you fill up 13 gallons every 2 weeks, that's about $15 in savings per month. Double that if you fill up once a week.

$180 in savings per year if you fill up once every 2 weeks, $360 in savings yearly for 1 week fill ups.

Another cool benefit of Costco is free nitrogen tire fill stations outside of the tire center. Most locations have them now. (No, you can't park, completely drain your tires and fill them with nitrogen, the machines wont turn on unless they detect at least 20psi of pressure.)

Also, Costco gas was recently listed as a Top Tier gasoline, they were not previously.

Yikes ! And I am not happy with $3.49 at Quick Check and Wawa. Heck, if gas was that high, I would never leave the door except for work.

And the crazy thing is, the gas prices have discouraged absolutely nobody from driving, if anything traffic is getting worse.

Gas aside, even though it's just the two of us, we definitely get our money's worth out of a Costco membership. It's more than just food (and they do sell a lot of good food, and not just in huge bulk quantities). We've gotten great deals on bicycles, deck boxes, furniture, shower heads, yeti-style coolers, patio heaters, etc. over the years

I would say that unless you use Costco as a food place as well as for gas then you probably will save $$. You have to consider the Annual Fee you pay to warrant just using it for gas.

I have a Sam's Club membership and use it for both buying food/supplies and gas. Sam's Club membership is lower too than Costco by $15 last I checked.

I also have a Sam's Club membership which I use for food and supplies. So when I am Sam's I fill up with gas. The first fill-up for my Maverick I still had 1/2 a tank left but the fuel savings made it worth it.

For membership I wait for Groupon to offer a deal.

Last year I got a one year membership for $35 but got a free Veggie Tray ($9.98), Roasted Rotisserie Chicken ($4.98) and Cookie Tray ($5.98) so membership cost was actually $14.06.

When the current membership expires I will again wait for another Groupon offer.

I save about $0.20-$0.35 per gallon but the two times I have filled up my Maverick the pump shuts off way early.

On the last fill-up after the pump shut off I had to go to Shell and put in an additional 5.4 gallons at 25 cents per gallon higher.

I normally stop at Costco when I am near there to save about 15 cents per gallon. However I had a friend who filled up there a couple years ago. The tanker guy unfortunately filled up one of the station tanks with Leaded gas! It took my friend a long time to recoup $1,500 dollar repair from the insurance from Costco. This I am sure was an isolated incidence.

How could that even happen?
Did it really happen?

Google search for "costco leaded gas tanker mixup" shows no results for Costco

Not an issue with my Hybrid Maverick.

I am retired so I shop mid-morning on a work day (Tue-Thur) so the line is very short. The most I have had to wait is about 5 minutes.

I was a Costco member, but work gave us a Sam Club Membership for free so I switched. The gas is about 25-35 cents less a gallon.
