I say if it's new to you, take baby steps.

Go 1,000 miles longer than you usually do, and get a used oil report.
If the report puts you at ease, next time go 2,000 miles longer.

I went with that process 20+ years ago.
That's why I'm really comfortable with longer intervals now.

People who make a living selling oil and doing oil changes recommend more frequent oil changes.

Brilliant! 💡

"the tech's at my dealer do theirs at 40% on the OLM"

Please explain how would they be making money doing oil changes on their own vehicles. I want in on that.

Cheers.

I know I need to have some kind of maintenance done at least once a year according to the extended warranty I got from the dealer (the paperwork really isn't specific about what exact maintenance needs to be done) but I also know I have to get maintenance every 10k miles according to the manual.

What I'm confused about is I got the truck in February (brand new 25 XLT hybrid AWD), and let's say by January 2026 I only hit 8000 miles. Do I need to bring it in for my yearly oil change, THEN come back again a few months later when I hit 10k miles to get another oil change already? Or will they just do a multi point inspection and not change the oil?

Also does anyone know what the oil life percentage equates to in miles? I'm at 63% oil life and 4183 miles. Will it be right at 50% when I hit 5000 miles? I'm planning a pretty long road trip in October (probably gonna be around 1200 miles total) and I'm trying to figure out if I should get the oil changed before I leave or right when I come back. The thing I'm worried about is hitting 5% oil life or (whatever % it is that tells you it's time for an oil change ) while I'm on the trip and don't wanna have to find a Ford dealer somewhere in the middle of the trip. I have no idea how the oil life percentage equates to miles driven so I can't plan out what I need to do. I need to be able to calculate "I have X% oil life left which means I can drive approximately X miles before it needs to be changed"
In the Hybrid, the gasoline engine isn't running much of the time, unless you're driving highway miles most of the time. The Oil Life Monitor takes this into account when it calculates when you're due for an oil change.

Regardless, even if you haven't run the gas engine enough miles to warrant an oil change, if it's been over a year, the OLM will come on anyway, because you should not go over a year on the same oil.

My last Hybrid oil change was done at 12k miles of driving. I sent a sample to Blackstone for analysis and they said the oil was still in good shape. I now trust the OLM to tell me when to change it. I also use the recommended full synthetic 0-20 oil and recommended Motorcraft filter.

If I had an ecoboost, the oil change intervals would be more frequent, because the gasoline engine is always running (unless stopped).

A bit more info on why I don't trust the manufacturers 10k miles oil intervals. The Maverick Hybrid has the Duratec 25 engine in it, it is the same engine as in the Escape. The manual for the 2009 Escape estates an oil interval of 7,500 miles. The EPA regulations and marketing are the reason for this change.

I agree totally! I have an Ecoboost Maverick with 10,914 on it. It is a 23 that I have had since I order in September of 2022. I change oil every 5k for sure. Especially since it is a Turbo & Direct Injected engine. Ford will do whatever looks better for them on paper.
On an Ecoboost, 5,000 is the most I'd change it at. Better every 4K. You have direct injection which dilutes the oil. And your engine is always running. Hybrids have port injection and run far less, especially those driven mostly in town. The port injection does not dilute the oil like DI. 8,000 miles is fine on a city driven hybrid. If l was driving a hybrid on the highway constantly or towing a small trailer weekly I'd do 5,000 or so. The variables matter.

I would review my warranty and see if you missed anything, but assume regular oil changes and maintenance items that are normal would be required. At the specified intervals. Like many here have mentioned mileage or yearly, whichever comes first. Also any other things that would need to be addressed like brakes, belts, hoses, normal wear items your dealer or Indy would look for in a service visit. Those would likely need attention to keep your warranty intact.

I didn't get an extended warranty on my 2025 XLT Hybrid AWD, but did get a service contract. Dealer priced it okay for me and never have I had one. This time I thought "what the hell, AWD and Hybrid". Never owned either before, so I did it. Figured I'd make them do oil and tire rotations. Not sure how AWD is going to wear on tires. Plus I work on other peoples crap all week then don't feel like working on mine at home. Maybe it's easier to make an appointment. We'll see.

The service warranty I got is for 6 years or 75,000 miles or 8 visits. Whichever comes first.
The guy signing the paperwork said bring it in every six months. A service manger dude when I used my Ford Pass points said "these motors are pre broken in , every 10,000 miles for oil change". I'm on track for about 6,000 per year with other vehicles and motorsickles I got. Maybe less, no more than 7500 per year for the Maverick. When I hit about 3,000 I'll do the first oil change. Then maybe twice per year. Otherwise I won't get what I paid for with the service agreement before it expires.

I think I paid $1200 for an extended warranty that covers pretty much everything, any electronic components including the infotainment screen, and the drivetrain are both covered for 100,000 miles with no time limit. If It takes me 30 years to hit 100k miles then it's still covered.

I was planning on getting the oil changed every 7500 miles regardless, and I only plan on driving about 7000-8000 miles a year (I'm kept my old 2005 Scion just to go back and forth to work). I was just thinking, if I get the oil changed at 7500 miles, do I still gotta bring it back in again a couple months later when I hit 10k? I'll have to talk to the dealer tomorrow and see how soon I can get the 10k service (whatever that entails) done before I actually hit 10k because it would be a lot more convenient to only come in one time a year and get everything done at once.

Sounds like you have found the perfect service interval for you. 1 year with 7,500 or 8,000 miles. Easy peasy no charts. 👍
Good quality oil and filter. I really doubt you'll have a problem especially with a low stress hybrid.

Every time you change the oil the IOLM gets reset. So if you change the oil at 8000 miles/1 year, the next scheduled change will be 18,000 miles/1 year. Or you can over change it because someone on the internet told you to.

Yes - the 10K inspection of many systems and tire rotation on your HYBRID (emphasis for others) may not match the 1 yr max for oil change. Max miles with no extreme use could easily hit the 10K too of course.

Multi-point and other inspection items could happen before 10K, and be done with oil change of course.

OLM is based on engine run time, even idle time, and towing time, and temps - so there is no miles per %, it'll be different for others, shoot it'll be different rate even for you possibly during the time.

Here's mine with non-extreme driving style.
Yellow what the OLM reported in Fordpass app.
Red what the estimated miles and days would be based on current miles/days and % given.
At 50%, it switched to 1 year out oil change but then reverted, before/after that it had 13 months, and whatever distance it estimated would happen.
That column for % ICE usage, matches the trip records really close - so it really appears to be going for 5K engine usage for an oil change. Other posters have showed towing shortens it, and extreme idling thru winter did too.

I talked to the dealer today who said it's basically "you gotta get an oil change within every 4000-6000 miles to keep the extended warranty valid". I think it's actually supposed to be 7500k according to the paperwork they gave me when I bought it but I'm not gonna make a big deal over an extra 2500 miles, I just gonna bring the thing in every 5k miles and not have to worry about it. 5k get an oil change, 10k get the "scheduled maintenance" as indicated on the Ford Pass app (which includes another oil change), 15k oil change, 20k scheduled maintenance, etc

That way I don't even have to worry about not meeting some specifically interval outlined by the warranty

One website worth visiting is I do Cars. He takes broken engines apart to see why they failed. You can always tell when extended oil changes have been done by the color of the inside surfaces. Not saying you need to change more than the manufacturer recommends, but have a look at a few of the videos and decide for yourself. Engines are better now. Oil is better now. They still go boom.
