I know I need to have some kind of maintenance done at least once a year according to the extended warranty I got from the dealer (the paperwork really isn't specific about what exact maintenance needs to be done) but I also know I have to get maintenance every 10k miles according to the manual.

What I'm confused about is I got the truck in February (brand new 25 XLT hybrid AWD), and let's say by January 2026 I only hit 8000 miles. Do I need to bring it in for my yearly oil change, THEN come back again a few months later when I hit 10k miles to get another oil change already? Or will they just do a multi point inspection and not change the oil?

Also does anyone know what the oil life percentage equates to in miles? I'm at 63% oil life and 4183 miles. Will it be right at 50% when I hit 5000 miles? I'm planning a pretty long road trip in October (probably gonna be around 1200 miles total) and I'm trying to figure out if I should get the oil changed before I leave or right when I come back. The thing I'm worried about is hitting 5% oil life or (whatever % it is that tells you it's time for an oil change ) while I'm on the trip and don't wanna have to find a Ford dealer somewhere in the middle of the trip. I have no idea how the oil life percentage equates to miles driven so I can't plan out what I need to do. I need to be able to calculate "I have X% oil life left which means I can drive approximately X miles before it needs to be changed"

Just my opinion, but I would get the oil changed now. I did mine much earlier and wasn't thrilled with what came out.

Cheers.

Every time you change the oil the IOLM gets reset. So if you change the oil at 8000 miles/1 year, the next scheduled change will be 18,000 miles/1 year. Or you can over change it because someone on the internet told you to.

Yup, I did the 1st oil change to my Hybrid at 1500 miles and it didn't look great. Same thing with my Corolla Hybrid and my Subaru STI when they were new. That 1st oil always comes out with metal particulate. People should stop paying attention to the manufacturers 10k mile intervals, that only gets you through the warranty period.

The first oil change done early is a common practice. Then every 1 year or every 10,000 is the commonly used and Ford recommended practice.

The percent oil life remaining is about a fraction of a year AND/OR a fraction of 10,000 miles IF YOU ARE AN AVERAGE DRIVER IN AVERAGE CONDITIONS.

If you are a vigorous driver and/or tow and haul a lot, the percentage will reach 0% more quickly.

If you are a very conservative gentle driver, the percentage will reach 0% more slowly.

The percentage left is a good indication of when to change oil.

I usually run out of miles before time.
But if you don't drive much, you may hit 1 year before you've driven 10,000 miles.

As for other "scheduled maintenance" like filters and such, usually if you are within a couple of thousand miles of the recommended interval they will do it early to align with your oil change visit.

My opinion would be every 10k for oil changes. As this is NOT a Turbo Changed engine. I has this same engine in my 2014 and 2017 Transit Connects. 2.5L is a good engine. I got 315,000 out of one and 275,000 out of last one. Sold both of them to someone else when done with them. Oil changes every 10k with FULL SYNTHETIC OIL is a must to do 10k oil changes.

What’s really confusing to many is the schedule says nothing about oil/filter service at the scheduled mileages. Being a car guy it's obvious that the oil service would be done at those times but it’s strange that Ford doesn’t spell it out.
RE: Oil change intervals you should do it yearly at a minimum regardless of mileage and 5-7k is a good interval for miles.
Everyone drives differently so one size doesn’t fit all. I’ve had my Mav for 18 months and has less than 3k so I do it yearly.

Your assertion that 10,000 mile oil changes or following the manufacturer's recommendation is not supported by data. Car engines ARE NOT failing soon after the warranty expires.

I agree totally! I have an Ecoboost Maverick with 10,914 on it. It is a 23 that I have had since I order in September of 2022. I change oil every 5k for sure. Especially since it is a Turbo & Direct Injected engine. Ford will do whatever looks better for them on paper.

What constitutes a "failure" though. Sure, a rod through the block would, but what about oil consumption? There is enough evidence to suggest the criteria for 10k (or man. recommended) oil changes includes factors beyond simple engine longevity, environmental factors being one. Many mechanics advise more frequent changes, and the tech's at my dealer do theirs at 40% on the OLM.

Cheers.

Lower oil viscosity recommendations from manufacturers to pass EPA fuel efficiency requirements and everyday driving conditions (hot temperatures, stop and go traffic, hill climb, oil dilution, etc) are all factors for faster oil degradation. If you live in a perfect place and baby drive your vehicle you would be OK with longer intervals. Yes, oil chemistry has evolved a lot but it still degrades. Manufacturers have no incentives on keeping engines healthy past the warranty period. I have been changing the oil in all my vehicles at 5k mile mark and have never had an issue and I will continue to do so.

You may want to think this over.

Watch this video that just dropped in.

If GM can't keep their engines alive during their warranty period because of the oil viscosity recommendation why would I trust any manufacturer with their oil change interval? Like I said before, manufacturers have no incentives on keeping you engine healthy after the warranty period, they only care about passing EPA and marketing and having longer oil change intervals is all about marketing.

People who make a living selling oil and doing oil changes recommend more frequent oil changes.

Brilliant! 💡

I have been changing the oil in all my vehicles at 5k mile mark and have never had an issue and I will continue to do so.
But when you finally meet God and he says over coffee "You know, you could have gone 15,000 miles between oil changes, and your truck would have been perfectly fine..."

Won't you feel just a little bit embarrassed? 🫢
