Per my post in another thread, it would be good to have a reference regarding suitable tweeter sizes for the dash location. I was unable (or unwilling at the time) to shoehorn the Morels Maximo 6 tweeters into my dash. The Powerbass ones are working, but it would be good to know which options are possible.

Here is what I learned when I was installing mine regarding the OEM vs. the Morels:

Did you measure the OEM depth? It's hard to check specs on new speakers that give that actual outside and depth divisions.

The OEM tweeter is below to give you a rough idea of the depth at the perimeter and at the connector. That said, the mounting location will accommodate much deeper tweeters. My guess would be 2+ inches.

Have you tried again to get the morel tweeter in the dash? I have the same component set but haven’t had a chance to install them.

No, I ended up buying a set of PowerBass components and only using the tweeters out of that set. Shoehorning the Morel tweeters in would have required some significant butchering of the dash location. That said, it would be hidden by the grille, but I wasn't prepared to do that.

The unfortunate part is that the big Morel silk domed tweeters were one of the reasons I wanted that component set. They play lower than most and would have worked will in my bi-amped configuration There is more information available now regarding fit and I would have made a different speaker selection accordingly.

Wish I would have had better news. Let us know if you figure it out.

Ok. That sucks they just don’t drop right in lol. I see some people have bought certain brands and the tweeters just popped right in. By shoehorning do you mean the plastic has to be cut out?

This might be a dumb question, but does the Morel tweeter have a trim ring that can be removed?

I installed Focal RSE 165 components and the tweeter did not fit as it came out of the box. I used a very small flat blade screwdriver to pry apart the trim ring and removed it. This then fit into the factory tweeter ring, but was a little loose. Others have reported using hot glue or silicone, but I went with double-stick tape and put it on about 80% of the tweeter as shown. This was enough to get a snug fit and I think if I ever remove them it'll be far easier this way rather than if I had covered all of it with double-stick tape. (I should be able to pry the bottom of it where there's no tape.)

Compare my pic with the images on Focal's site. I didn't measure but I do still have that trim ring so I could reverse this change (to install the tweeters in another vehicle for example). https://www.focal.com/en/technical-...ns/performance/auditor/component-kits/rse-165

I wanted the Morel as Crutchfield shows only a handful of components with silk tweeters that will fit in the somewhat shallow front doors. I still might do it someday.

I think it does have some type of trim ring. I will have to look when I get home. I might try one day when it gets warmer outside to remover the factory tweeter dash cover then the tweeter and try to see how close my morel tweeter is to fitting.

Yes, removing plastic. I didn't see any other way to find .015". If you do find a way, please share. Always easier to shim around a smaller object than forcing an interference fit.

Depends on the tweeter. Obviously everyone should buy the tweeters that sound good to them, in their budget.

But I wanted to mention that once I removed the trim ring from my Focal RSE-165 tweeters, they fit pretty well without cutting plastic. They were loose but putting double stick tape around roughly 3/4 of them made them fit perfectly.

This particular tape sets with heat so I used a blow dryer after I aimed them.

I was looking for tweeter fitment and found this for dimensions on the crutchfield site. There is a ton of depth, but looks like trimming may be required or surface mounting for a bigger tweeter.

my tweeter is about the same size, Crutchfield officially lists it a 1.547" (which is probably 40mm).

if you look closely at the product pics for the Focal tweeter compared to what I attached above, you see the tweeter dome itself is inset and there's plastic around the edge. this is the trim ring I removed - I didn't have to cut, I think it had a plastic tab I just pressed and it released from the tweeter. this is why mine were small and I had to use double sided tape to mount them.

when I look at those JL tweeters, it looks like the tweeter has minimal frame around it and the dome appears larger than the Focal tweeter dome. if there is no trim you can remove, this might mean if it doesn't fit you're cutting plastic. still, I wouldn't be afraid to do it.

I found that I had to select a tweeter or component set for it to show me the allowed dimensions vs the chosen speaker dimensions. That JL set is just what came up as recommended as an upgrade. Does your focal set have a 3/4 or 1" tweeter? I'm thinking I want a 1" silk dome tweeter. If I can't find one that is an easy fit, I might consider surface mounting on the speaker grill, and/or finding one that has a directional pod.
