It could be more like a five year old Ford Focus.

Part of the stragety for the low price of the Maverick was that they wanted to have an option for people that would have previously bought a Ford car. Once Ford stopped making cars, except for the Mustang, they wanted a way to keep those loyal Ford customers. A high percentage of Maverick owners have never owned a pickup before.
I just meant that it won't have exorbitant markups, and will just slot in like most used vehicles in its category.

I fall into the category of people where the Maverick is their first truck -- I spent the last dozen years daily driving a Nissan Versa -- though I was already looking at trucks when the Maverick was announced.

I agree with you that Mavericks won't have exorbitant markups.

I suspect that Ford has observed that many people are willing to pay more for a Maverick. I expect that the MSRP for MY2024 will increase by 15-20%. That is why Ford has stated that there will be no price protection on the unbuilt MY2023 units.

Have you read ANY of the horror stories of 550 days of waiting to get one?

If you have more money than time, IT IS WORTH IT! To take one home with zero waiting or wondering. Don't forget the wondering. An order is never a guarantee you will actually get one.

There was an excellent one hour discussion amongst real experts in the industry at the Autoline link below. They talk about increasing prices, production issues, inventory issues with new and used cars, affordability, the transition to BEVs and more. It kind of puts the whole crazy auto industry situation into perspective. The phrase that kept coming up was "we're still not at normal". Which kind of summarizes things.

Normal used to be that you walk onto your Ford dealership and they have 30 Mavericks lined up for you. Nobody really knows what the new normal will be after things settle down (if they ever do).

And yes, I plead guilty to being an Autoline fanboy. I've learned a lot about how the industry works from following their Autoline After Hours weekly show.

If you absolutely need a vehicle now? Maybe. But for that price you could also buy a far more capable truck.

This. There is not one mass produced vehicle on the market today that I would look at and say, "Yes, I'm gonna choose to take out $5000-10,000 over MSRP from my bank account and set it on fire for nothing."

You're not getting it.

Dealers are Asking $10k over. People are not paying that. Some are paying $1500 to $5000 over. Everything is negotiable. Even ADM.

I walked on a lot. Drove my Maverick home the same day. Exact color and trim I wanted. I paid $3k over MSRP. Over 2022 MSRP which is like $1500 over current MSRP.

Consider it a "Tip" to the dealer for great customer service. He also took a trade-in off my hands that had a open recall due to lack of parts. A car I couldn't have legally sold to a private private party due to the recall issue. I later found out he had to store that car for 100 days while HE waited for the parts.

Win - Win

In five years the Maverick will be just another used truck.
In five years 2028 MSRP will start at $49,494,94 and used 2022 XL with 75,757.57 miles will be only $36,363.63!😁
