Btw I work for a resort as a shuttle driver here in Tucson and we have a fleet of Ford Transit vans and our windshields are getting pitted and cracked continually. There is just lots of rocks and debris all over the place around here.

WOW! Good to know. Best to have Ford replace it, rather then local glass shop.
I went the local glass shop route, but they cross-reference by VIN. Not sure how many total Maverick windshield configurations there are but even on the XLT without co-pilot 360 the Luxury package incorporates a windshield wiper de-icer. Aftermarket glass d-icer wires are more visible but can confirm the feature is there. At least it didn't require re-calibration for just the auto-headlight sensor.

I've had bad experience with Safelite on the Scion xB, after multiple install attempts it still leaks. Local shop has been here since the 70's and actually cares about their reputation in the community.

We are now a two Lariat Maverick family. 22 Cactus Grey .. and now 11 months 2 weeks later after placing order, a Cyber Orange 2023 Lariat Maverick.
I am absolutely convinced the windshield glass in the Lariat Maverick is either soft or brittle or some combination thereof.
I have had vehicles that I've driven for years here in the southwest that have never needed a windshield replacement. Not counting the Mavericks, I can count on one hand how many rock chips I've had to have repaired in my lifetime. I've had a bunch of cars and driven a bunch of miles and I've never seen anything like this. The 22 Lariat Maverick is on its third windshield and has had seven chip repairs. This Maverick is mainly driven in the city, in town, and very little driving on the interstate or highways.
Today at 769 Miles, 2023 Cyber Orange Lariat Maverick took a rock chip. I was doing typical below 45 in city driving.
Who else is having an absurdly high number of rock chips and cracked windshields?
By the way I'm calling out the Lariat because it supposedly has special sound deadening glass. Perhaps it's an issue with all the Mavericks.
My '22 XL has had the same issues. Replaced it after a rock hit it on 7th day of ownership. New one now had 3 chips in it 🤬. At 57 years old, this is only the 2nd windshield I've ever replaced. Maverick windshield glass is garbage! Had an '05 F-150, it got smashed all the time with rocks, never even a chip . I feel your pain.

I have never owned a vehicle that did NOT have a windshield replaced; and most had at least 2. Freeway driving and back and forth to work were likely the cause. But this does not suggest your opinion about the Lariat windshields is wrong. Maybe the sound deadening goes hand and hand with that issue. When/if my Lariat arrives I will relate my experience.

I don't know about the windshield but the paint is shit, look at the wrong way and it chips.

There just seems to be more debris on the highways these days, including more rocks and tire tread pieces. I attribute it to two main causes: More trucks on the road with less experienced drivers (wandering on shoulders and picking up rocks in their treads), and less road sweeping maintenance.

I-20 in Mississippi is a case in point. Got a rock hit there, went to a local glass shop where they told me the state stopped sweeping the interstate and their business quadrupled.

Windshield damage is so common in Texas that having a cracked windshield, even in the drivers field of view, is no longer a reason to fail the annual safety inspection.

The interstates are a brutal battleground these days. Nobody, truckers or highway departments, care about debris on roadways anymore.

If you can get the dealer to service a vehicle... in my case every time they're subbed it out to a glass shop.

Its the windshield material in the Maverick. I took a giant rock to the windshield in the Lancer yesterday going about 55 and nary a chip. In my Outlander that is 16 yrs old original windshield, no chip anywhere, very minor pitting and it took a hit from a board that chopped off the side mirror from debris that flew out of a truck.

Beware of wiper scratches. At 7000 miles my Maverick is developing that ‘haze’ from wiper swipes. Soft glass. Make sure you never turn on wipers on a dry windshield!

I wonder if aftermarket windshields would be a better quality. I had a '87 Nissan Sentra that went through several windshield repairs and replacements, the dealer tried to tell me it was the aerodynamics of the car. Back then rock chip repair companies would set up shop in parking lots because chipping was common and chip repair had become a feasible option.

We've had the windshield replaced on our jetta 4 times in 7yrs, including twice within two months. My wife, came home a month or so ago with a rock chip in the Maverick, which I immediately went and got repaired (fine so far). In my previous almost 20yrs of driving, I had never had to replace a windshield.

I wonder the same thing. Mines getting replaced Wednesday, Safelite guy said he could get the OEM or an aftermarket, I asked the difference between the two and got what I'm sure is a standard issue reply of no difference at all, but I'd love to see some info from folks who have done either (maybe both?) and if they see any difference? Second guessing myself on the OEM, since it's pretty clear that IS junk glass.Half tempted to call Safelite back and tell them to bring me the aftermarket.

Your first call should be to someone other than Safelite. Like other companies that dominate specific industries, they generally charge more than competitors and have less skilled staff. They are the JiffyLube of autoglass. I used Safelite for the first of 4 windshield replacements on our jetta because it was the most convenient option; never again. It was ~30% more expensive than our local guy (not including fee to come to my home) and the installer was terrible (screwed up my windshield wipers, left adhesive residue everywhere, left trash inside the car and in my driveway - I took the car into their facility later that day and had someone else fix it all). Also, they charge ~$150 for rock chip repair (without insurance) while the local guy does it for $35.
