What is the manufactured month/year on the driver's door tag?

Broadly, New Mexico followes CARB regs so those emissions warranties apply. So I'd think it should be covered under the 3yr/50k mile short-term emission control defect warranty if not the 7yr/70k mile long term defect warranty.

If it was Job 2 then it'd be SULEV30 certified which has an even longer, more comprehensive emissions warranty.
How do I explain to the Ford Dealership? Isn't Ford part of the group? What would be my next steps?

The check engine light came on and I took to the local Ford dealership and this is their response

The fuel tank assembly needs to be replaced and you are out of bumper to bumper warranty by mileage. The full repairs would be $2725 after tax.

Is this a known issue and why would they need to replace the entire system?
Only 4K over the 3yr/36k warranty?
How wild is that.
I have a feeling you put that 4K miles on it recently with how many miles you already have.
I would call ford. You are so close to within warranty.
Seems like they could make an exception?
Good luck brother 🍀

Just one of the many DA items that can justify the MAX Length Extended Warranty! (Or the 3/36 trade in rule), I would trade with a 4/60 or a 5/75 OEM warranty! Welcome to the new world transportation.

As I told you in the DM, I did run Ford's "part coverage too" on 9002 (the fuel tank) for your VIN & miles. I just doubled checked that I used your state, not mine. That shows no coverage. That is what the dealership will be using to determine coverage.

This part would be covered in NY & other states covered by California emissions standards.

I'll attach a chart from the part coverage directory. For 22 MY, 9002 is covered 3/36 in Federal Emissions states for cars and trucks w/ gross vehicle weight less than or equal to 8500 lb.
The coverage is 7/70 in CA emissions states (for vehicles w/ gvw less than 14,000 lbs).

There is 5/100 coverage under federal emissions, but only for vehicles greater than 19,500 lbs.

That other chart posted is also from Ford's parts coverage directory, and gives more detail about the 7/70 CA emissions coverage.

For 22MY:
California Emissions warranty applies to: o Passenger Car & Light-duty Trucks (through 8,500 pounds GVWR) – California (CA), Colorado (CO) Connecticut (CT), Delaware (DE), Maine (ME),
Maryland (MD), Massachusetts (MA), New Jersey (NJ), New York (NY), Oregon (OR), Pennsylvania (PA), Rhode Island (RI), Vermont (VT) and Washington (WA).

I see some news articles from 2023 talking about NM adopting CA emissions.... but I don't see that indicated in anything from Ford. Perhaps it hasn't taken effect yet?

Or if you think that it may gave been in effect in 2022....then maybe your dealership can contact Ford for clarification?

NM is not listed as having CA emissions coverage in the parts coverage directory for 22 MY. The last time NM is mentioned as being eligible for CA coverage is 2011 MY.

It looks like coverage won't be applicable in MY until 26 or 27 MY.

The shop should have offered to get on the phone with Ford to get coverage being so close to the factory warranty expiring and it being such a critical, but odd, failure. This isn't some wear item like calipers, axles, and the like. This is a component that should see a couple decades of use. Any failure in it this early is absolutely a defect in the product.

Call the Ford Pope and ask for a blessing. Ford has programs specifically for this situation!

Makes me wonder if this could have anything to do with the drilling into the fuel tank issue.

Get a second opinion. Sometimes dealerships want to throw thousands of your dollars at a problem they don't understand.

Yes I remember this problem, only affected a small amount of units though right?

It was a "handful" of trucks that went through during a very short window. The drill-stop wasn't installed on the bit so it went deeper than it should have and put a hole in the top of the tanks. People discovered they were part of the problem when they went to fill up their tanks for the first time.

Yes small amount. Something about clearing out drainage holes I think.

With the timing of that, not many hybrids would have been delivered without that being caught before sale. Recall was issued December 23 and, due to the emissions certification thing, Hybrids didn't enter OKTB until November 28. So many would have been in transit and had it inspected before sale.

Glad I opted for the 2.0 turbo!
