I had a Honda CRZ hybrid. Drove it in eco all the time. Also no way to set as the default. I got used to setting it on start up. Have no idea why these car companies do not allow you to set the default. I don't know if most vehicles from other manufacturers follow this. Seems like a simple feature

While its not a hybrid my 2015 Kia Forte has an eco mode as well. Its a button on the dash and it stays in the mode it was left in.

I set it for eco when I bought it and haven't had to touch it for 120,000 miles.

If Kia can figure it out seven years ago I'm pretty sure Ford could do it if they chose to.

It MAY be a simple feature BUT may have to default to "NORMAL" mode to meet EPA requirements because that was the mode (configuration) that EPA tested and approved for the mode that the vast majority will be operated in. 🤷

If that were the case all vehicles with selectable drive modes would have to default to whatever setting was tested. Thats not the case, my Kia stays.

What year is your Kia? Have the rules changed? My 2012 Honda crv stays to what ever mode was last in use! Is it a Ford thing? How do other Fords do it?

My Lexus CT got better mileage in sport mode than eco mode (because the electric motor had more voltage to it in sport mode)
It was also something I'd have to switch to every time, but much less annoying than the Mav since I could do it with a quick dial rather than pressing OK a couple times and switching through multiple button presses.

I've noticed in my Mav that if I try to switch to ECO mode on startup if I don't clear all the nested "OK" windows (the three that I can think of that I most often see are "Ready to Drive", seatbelt indicator, and parking break off) it takes me 5 presses of the drive mode button. But if I clear all the "OK windows" then it only takes me 4 presses of the drive mode button to select ECO. Bloody annoying.

If anyone from Ford is listening (I doubt it), a method to allow the driver to choose their preferred default drive mode (instead of simply starting in the previously used mode if that is a concern) is to steal the UI method of saving radio stations. Press and hold the drive mode button to save the currently selected mode as the owner's default.

There are a couple 3rd party (at least one is a DIY version documented on this forum) modules that will send simulated button presses of the mode button to the car's computer. A forum search should expose those options for anyone willing to hardware hack their Mav.

I very seldom bother with ok screens in my lariat first edition I turn knob to drive and tap the mode button twice for econ or three times for slippery (can tap as fast as I want). In my XLT LUX I turn knob and push the mode button four times for slippery (but have to slow push about 0.7 seconds apart, pushing too fast and processor may miss one or more of pushes. By the time the display gets through it's screens I have slippery set and I seldom see the mode selected screens. Occasionally I wind up in the wrong mode and have to push mode button once to pull mode screen up then have to push number of times necessary to step through the modes to get to where I want = PIB!).

I add pressing into "Low" to that routine. Great close to one foot driving.
