When my windshield cracked b/c of a rock, this is exactly what I did as well and the insurance company never questioned it.
May I ask who your insurance company is? I'm in MI too and have State Farm. My 2025 XLT Hybrid how has a nasty crack in it that happened this weekend so I need to see what my options are for getting it replaced. I wouldn't say no to having a Lariat Soundscreen windshield put in that's for sure. Do you notice a difference with the new SoundScreen windshield compared to your XLT windshield?

It was a notable difference, and I would do it again. Wind noise specifically is reduced. Because my insurance policy has windshields/glass subject to the normal $1,000 deductible, I was paying cash for the change. But as I noted, the main point is the economics are barely different. Maybe $30-60. Offer to pay for that part yourself if you have to.

I have a 2025 XLT Hybrid with Lux Pkg so not sure if anything has to be recalibrated when they replace the windshield on my truck or not. I guess the glass company will know. I have a zero deductible for windshield replacement per my agent so I might not be able to upgrade to the lariat windshield but I'll see what they say.

Yes, I'm pretty sure there will be a recalibration regardless which glass you choose.

Years ago, with California Casualty, they would replace glass with $0 deducible if you used their contractors.

My father got the bright idea to carry a ladder in a 64 VW by balancing it across the front and back seats--after all, they were the same height!

They didn't bat an eye at the stupid reason for the broken glass, and just replaced it.

I haven't seen that since.

it's a good move, though, for the insurance companies--glass replacement is such a racket that they can pay less that way than they would after the deductible.

I just swapped my cracked XLT for the acoustic glass. I would rate it as a small improvement in overall noise. That being said, many small improvements equal a big improvement. I have the fender well pads and additional acoustic padding under the dash. The windshield extends below the dash to the point where if you stick your head under the steering wheel and look up you can see daylight under the dash. That is where I added more acoustic padding.

I have GEICO and a $500 deductible. I asked the auto glass rep for the specific part# and explained my reason for asking for it. He sourced it from a dealship within 24 hours. Geico defaulted to Safelite, of course, but I called the local office and explained I wanted OEM glass and a Ford certified glass installer for my less than a year old vehicle. They approved the work order at cost ($945) without any push back. If I had just followed the process I would have ended up with aftermarket glass installed by Safelite and still paid a $500 dollar deductible.

I think my insurance company was Michigan insurance (https://www.michiganinsurance.com/home) at that time. I have switched insurance company to Progressive b/c Michigan has increased my insurance rates for my house & cars...never hurts to shop around.

I think it was a bit quieter, my hearing isn't as good as it use to be so I can't be 100% sure. The only reason I swapped to the quieter windshield is b/c it didn't cost me any additional money out of my pocket so it was a no brainer to do this.
