I’ve seen a few threads with similar issues, but I’m hoping to get some clarity before throwing hundreds of dollars at this issue. A few weeks ago I got a CEL and 2 codes P04F0 and P0496. I also traced a weird groaning sound back to my gas cap and when I pushed the fill tab it was sucking air into the fuel tank. I had the dealer diagnose as it could be a variety of issues. Long story short dealer quoted $900 for “purge valve” replacement or $450 for the part. Since I’m pretty handy I asked to do it myself. Based on @BlueSpec1 wonderful write up there are a few different valves that could ideally fail. Has anyone replaced the “purge valve” which I assume is part # NZ6Z-9D289-A with any success? The part is available online for under $300 but I want to make sure there aren’t other failure points affecting my CELs before jumping in.

You may want to ask your dealer if you bought an extended warranty - would they cover this repair?

Dealers love to sell extended warranty’s and you may be able to negotiate a win/win…

The only way you can pull a vacuum on the fuel tank is if the vapor management valve is open.
unplug it & see if there's still a vacuum on the tank
If there is then the valve is stuck open
The valve is expensive because it is part of a line that includes check valves
The part # you have is for the entire assembly, that's the only way Ford sells it
The base # for the valve in question is 9C915, look it up on google
You should be able to find just the valve aftermarket & splice it in
There is one for a Focus that looks just like the one in your line but I haven't tried it C1BZ-9C915-A

Unfortunately I did not purchase an extended warranty and so far I’ve had pretty bad luck finding someone to offer one since I’m pushing 90k miles.

Be warned those plastic lines are hard to work with
You need to really warm them up with a hair dryer or heat gun
And be aware there are fuel vapors unless you remove the assembly
