Seems like my theory was correct. The camera recall software update made Android auto way smoother than it used to be. Before touching the screen was very laggy, but it seems like now it's quite responsive. Touch input is a lot more consistent. Whoever reported the laggy rear view camera, thank you so much!

I honestly think they might have upgraded the whole infotainment unit. The screen is brighter and more vibrant too. When I saw what the recall, I figured it was nearly impossible to fix without a hardware upgrade or hire an expert engineer to optimize the everliving crap out of the code. I think it might be full sync 3 hardware now with features disabled for the sake of not giving people too much free stuff. I also think they purposely kept the same locked frame rate, but now it can easily maintain it without dropping frames.

Keep in mind, we're well past the COVID-induced chip shortage, so it might have been an easy fix now to put the omitted chips back in. Though I do wonder how tariffs will change the equation now. (That being said, if an upgraded infotainment system costs $200 for them, it costing $500 in the scheme of the overall price of the car is maybe a bit more bearable for them)

The fix is a software update only. They didn't swap any chips.

I agree; my Apple CarPlay works so much better and the connectivity seems more consistent and I swear the screen image quality has improved.

I noticed my screen being brighter as well.
I did too. It was changed to a brighter setting either automatically or by the tech. Still a 💩 camera.

Had this recall done (plus the taillight BCM update), as well as a front axle seal replaced under warranty, and just got the truck back today. Due to scheduling and parts availability, they had my truck for two weeks. Sigh.

Have not messed with CarPlay too much to experience a potentially snappier system - but one thing I noticed right off the bat is that the turn signal clicks are nearly inaudible. Freaking HALLELUJAH.

I reported the camera issue to NHTSA over a year ago. After that I encouraged others to report their issues. Then we got the fix. I had already sold my 23, so never got to see the improvements. But the 25 cameras are a huge improvement over the previous ones. Doesn't even get wet anymore.

Had the recall, everything works great.
I prefer mine getting wet though.

No upgrade besides software.

When you stop programming leaks that take up memory and processing power - everything can work better.
They may have had a few other fixes in the mix anyway, but maybe not.

The screen brightness had already been improved in the 24MY, settings were just changed for the 22-23MY.

The fix is a software update only. They didn't swap any chips.
I just went to a dealership.
Two persons told me parts and 4.0 hours of labor are involved.

Software updates for the powertrain and body control module are allocated 0.7 hours.

I have six open recalls.
They said the rear camera update was the most involved one. They took pictures of all my radio settings so they could "restore" it for me.
They said it may last longer than one day and I'll get a loaner car if they are not done by 5pm today.
