Yeah, I don't have a problem with this as Ford has to continually provide updates and the infrastructure to run that.
What I DO have a problem with is companies like BMW (trying) to charge subscription fees for things you've already paid for like heated seats. Screw them.
Here's a good one. Ford wants you to pay for the use of the Mach E Frunk. Maybe Ford is trying to make up their $19+ billion dollar loss on the EV division.

Great video!

And this is an example where I wouldn't buy this particular vehicle.

When looking around before getting our Mav, I was taking a liking to the Mach E.

We went with the Mav of course. But a subscription for the frunk would be a hill I would die on before purchasing.

And I agree with the host of the video, no one should buy ANY vehicle that enacts such stupidity as part of the sale.

Now, back to waiting for the rain delay (Canada versus Panama at the WBC in PR) to end!

Have a good one,

Andy

I wouldn't buy one to begin with. This makes them even less desirable...which leads me to "if something's not being used, how is adding a fee going to increase demand?" Which, of course, also makes me ask "How and why in the hillbilly hell is Ford tracking Frunk useage?"

Never seen one but I bet it's tied to how you open it. I'm guessing there is a lever/fob/button and those can be tracked super easily. Hell even a contact switch tied to the bus would tattle on it being opened.

Never underestimate the value of telemetry... to everyone but YOU

I've owned several Fords over the years starting with a '54 Crestliner Starliner. I now have a '25 Maverick Lariat. My grump complaint is why is Ford nickle & dime us over the GPS and other things. After spending almost $40K for the truck now one year later they want $80 a year to make my GPS work :(
Valid complaint. All my Toyotas did not need a subscription for the maps to work. It’s stupid. I, unlike very few folks, don’t always have a phone with me. Life is much simpler that way. I, like you probably, was able to grow up just fine without a phone in hand. 😂 The GPS is just an electronic atlas that comes in handy.

Google Maps has started doing that as well with the painful routes only they don't offer a clear option to choose a the route you want. I prefer staying on the highway in most situations on long trips but Google Maps seems to find alternative routes and supposedly they do this because it's Eco friendly.
Trip back from Arkansas did a different route for dinner spot son wanted to get to - but I didn't catch coverage like my son did in a valley - so relied on him (I usually write out the major highways for route just in case).
I'm thinking - why are we going up that way, doesn't sound faster - but I had no signal and driving, and couple times that had a pull-off had no signal either - so...

Indeed a route that no-way could have been as fast as straighter line highway.

When we reached dinner, I double-checked.
He had selected the Eco route - supposedly only 8 min longer (except traffic on 2 lane back highways with no ability to pass during end of work-day traffic - ya longer), but 10 miles shorter.
I'm not even convinced the up & downs and bends would be more Eco for everyone. Decent for hybrid at least.

Appreciate you guys bringing this issue up. I'm about 17-18 months into ownership of my '24 Lariat Tremor, so before they take away the ability to, I've updated the navigation software on my Sync 3. FWIW, the download/upload worked better with a 3.0-130MB/s flash drive.

The map will always work (as I can attest to from my 2019 Ecosport), but you won't get updates on road changes or restaurants, gas stations etc. Every two or three years, you can get an update and feel ok about it.
