" Covid can no longer be blamed for supply chain issues "

Unfortunately we're still seeing the after shocks of lock downs in overseas factories. The industry I'm in is semi-conductors and our customers and suppliers are still trying to recover. So called "Just-in-time" manufacturing created a huge backlog of demand that will take a long, long time to recover from.

You are right to a certain degree that a lot of people resigned during and after the pandemic, and we're seeing the effects of that as well. I believe that if North America wants to be supply chain independent, we need to invest in domestic manufacturing at home and in Central/South America. Our biggest weakness right now is the availability of rare earth minerals. China owns the vast majority of rare earth mineral supply.

Wait until it gets stuck “in production” for a month and a half when they run out of what ever your truck needs to be completed…. After being rescheduled 4 times.. Ask me how I know. Lol

They basically cannot build a hybrid with any sort of consistency so you need to plan accordingly if you have one on order.

People just dont want to work. The refusal of young people to do manual labor is appalling.
I REALLY don't want to make this sound political (and risk this all being deleted), but your comment is one of the most tone deaf statements out there.

People do want to work......for a living wage. Young people are not refusing to do manual labor. They ARE refusing to settle for poverty level wages anymore. They are refusing to have horrible work/life balance. They are waking up to the realities that are corporate greed and the reality that the vast majority of corporations don't care about their employees. People are realzing they need to advocate for themselves and need to stop just saying yes to whatever the big boss is throwing at them.

Your comment reminds me of a Facebook post I saw a few months back. Some company had posted that they needed some people to come unload thousands and thousands of boxes from tractor trailers in blistering heat. They wanted to pay minimum wage, no benefits. Nobody "wanted the work" according to them. They then made a second post a lot like yours, claiming that "People just don't want to work. The refusal of young people to do manual labor is appalling." while crying about how THEY (middle/upper management) were forced to unload the shipments. How THEY had to do the backbreaking work themselves and how THEY should not have had to. The horror!

"Why don't people want to work? Why won't someone come do this heavy menial labor for us for the absolute bare minimum pay required by law?"

These types of situations are why the lazy young whippersnappers don't "want to work" anymore.

Not the one I was referencing but a related example.

Couldnt agree more. The OP"s original statement was cringeworthy.

USA is a free market!
God Bless America!
Supply and Demand!
No one wants to work!

...wait what???

As stated, the labor market is just like any other market. You want people to work, real simple answer...pay more. At a certain labor rate you will reach equilibrium.

The components needed to build vehicles that people need for transportation to work is a basic good and service

Entitled much? I ordered the same build 9 days before you. I had to order a 2023 as mine never got picked for a build date. A buddy ordered a loaded lariat hybrid from the same dealer 2 weeks later and has a build date. I'm disappointed but I'm not whining about not getting "basic goods and services. Get over yourself.

"living wage" is a recent creation and complete fallacy. The underlying premise of hiring is the wage of a job is tied to what the employer sees as value of the job to THEM, not what the worker can buy with the wages offered. I personally worked many low wage jobs as I worked my way up the employment and educational ladders on my way to a good Middle Class living and retirement. Change is not always for the better and if it aint broke- don't fix it. Unintended consequences destroy many well intended policies.

then companies go broke by paying more or cut staff..than nothing gets produced...if you need a job there are many out there who cares what it pays.if need to get 2 jobs so be it..i did for awhile.. if it puts food on the table..if desperate enough will work ..PERIOD! trust me I know

There are a lot of things going on. Here in NEW JERSEY I go to a few local stores, Bagel store, gas stations small restaurants, etc.. All have “Help Wanted” signs up. I’ve asked them what are you paying? Most if not all are paying $20 or more an hour and can’t get anyone. I interviewed for my company and that latest round, one applicant stated he will call back when he gets back from Hawaii in 2 weeks. He came in for the interview was literally crying he needed work. He said he took his unemployment, and government stimulus monies and went to Hawaii and now he needs to work because he’s behind in his rent and utilities. I have to blame our public schools for failing to teach life skills.
