Bronco Sport trucks use a 12M stud where the Maverick is 14M. Both wheels and nuts use a 60* seat. My Bronco Sport First Edition (black) wheels are visually identical to the Maverick XLT wheels in terms of the actual lug holes in the wheel, 60* seat taper and depth, and exterior voids around the nuts.
Johnkn,
Thank you, this is the first time I've seen anybody confirm that the hole size is the same between the Bronco Sport wheels (that use 12mm studs) and Maverick wheels (that use 14mm studs). I know you said "visually", but a 2mm (.080") difference would be pretty obvious.

The Maverick lug nuts project slightly further out from the (unmounted) wheels than Bronco Sport nuts because, as evidenced in your picture, the Maverick nuts have a longer straight shoulder. All clamping force is provided by the 60* shoulder, the longer straight shoulder simply makes the lug nut project further from the seat face. .

Here's a Ford line drawing of the Ford Maverick locks. I also have a Ford drawing of the nuts. Both drawings are similar with the exception of the length overall, as the locks have a slightly greater overall length at 1.692" vs 1.5" to allow for tool engagement (pattern depth shown below) .

Take the (2) nuts in your pic above, turn them both upside down and take a picture. I suspect you'll find that from the table surface up to the top of the shoulder they are virtually identical, and that's what provides all locating and clamping force on a tapered lug nut.

Good luck..

.
They are not even close to identical.

In this photo both the M14 lug and the M12 have the same engagement on the seat of the steel wheel. It doesn't matter how deep the smaller M12 lug goes, the seat on the steel wheel itself is only 3-4mm in cross section therefore it doesn't matter if the larger M14 lug doesn't go as deep, engagement is engagement and they're both putting the same amount of force on the wheel itself. The M14 lug on the right is the factory lug for the Maverick so are you trying to say that the Ford Engineers don't know what they're doing?

The 60* cones are what provides the locating and clamping force. Both cones appear almost identical. Anything above the red lines should not touch anything and only increases the overall length of the nuts..

I wouldn’t consider it confirmed without pics and or measurements with a caliper.
I don’t believe Johnkn actually went out and checked but is just going from memory from when he installed them. Bronco sport lugs have clear differences in size from Maverick lugs and They ABSOLUTELY fit differently in the wheels. I’ve test fit 4 different lug nuts this week. When you look from the back side of the rim the bronco sport lugs clearly sit deeper into the recessed area.

Which rim are you talking about? If you're talking about the steel wheel it doesn't matter. All that matters is what makes contact with the seat of the steel wheel. Show photos of the backside of the wheel with the lugs seated I guess. Honestly if you were correct with your fears we would have seen a failure by now since some people have been running them for over a year and many thousands of miles now. If it really bothers you that much I guess stick with aftermarket wheels or Maverick wheels.

Think what you guys are not getting is the diameter is different the Mav lugs are clearly larger. If you have a hole and a dime fits snugly in it………..will a quarter fit the same ?

I think what you aren't getting is that Cubican has probably sold more OEM wheels that correctly fit a Maverick than you've ever owned, and I run BS FE wheels with stock Maverick lug nuts and they fit perfectly......

LOL, what you don't understand is that at some point the cross section of each the M14 and M12 lugs are identical. It's all about how deep they engage. Ford apparently drills their wheels to engage an M14 lug deep enough for full engagement even though it;s not going as deep as the M12. It would also make sense from a manufacturing standpoint to drill them for a variety of lugs since it simplifies the production process and you could potentially use the same wheel across a variety of models, aka the bronco sport badlands and Maverick FX4 using the same wheel just painted different colors.
Yes it is about how deep they engage……… and one member has already posted pics of Mav lugs bottoming out and chewing up the bronco sport rims. The bottom pic clearly shows damage
