I don’t know how you managed to break it at all. The cable should have stopped the tailgate from putting that kind of load on the ball.
You will notice that the cable end is missing the retaining clip. A minor warranty claim to be made. So perhaps the cable end was not attached to stud and all the weight was on the damper.

I just so happen to have an extra black painted one. I replaced the Dee Zee piston because 1. I didn't like the Dee Zee logo and 2. the piston was gurgling loudly on opening. All the pistons are basically the same, manufactured in China so I bought an inexpensive kit off Amazon and just replaced the piston. I will send it to you for the cost of shipping.
SOLD. Let me know shipping to NC. Will provide address on DM.

I should be able to get by a UPS store tomorrow. I’m glad to help a fellow Maverick owner out. I am in VA.
Here is the kit it will come from: https://www.amazon.com/Vepagoo-Tailgate-22-Current-Maverick-Liftgate/dp/B0BWTJ8VQ1/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?
Check the price, you may decide it’s worth it to just buy a whole new kit. I have no idea what shipping will cost. I will check back tomorrow to confirm with you.

Just to clarify, the part circled in red is the proper piece to use as the upper bracket. In the photo he provided it is slightly askew and not straight up and down as required. Is this the reason for the break? I think not as that angle should not affect the strength of the weld regardless of the angle.
It is clearly the weak point on this device.
By the way, on Ebay I have found the same complete kit for $9.95. I ordered one as at that price it would give me more confidence than my epoxy fix. It also is alreasy painted black to match my blackout package.
From my evaluation they are all coming out of the same manufacturer, just marketed under different names.

I can weld that ball stud for you for nothing, but neither of us can afford to ship back and forth, as that would be more than replacing it. I say that but, it may be made from Chinesium Alloy that is 2/3 junk that will blow a part when you strike an arc. It looks identical to the one on my Maverick, except mine is painted black. I didn't remove mine to view the backside but I suspect the ball stud was electric spot fused to the plate and it was contaminated and simply didn't fuse. A local welder can fix it, butt it will take some of his/her time to clean the rust, lay a bead, grind it smooth and call you to come and get it. Buy a new one.
