Yes, I experienced it early on and I just turned 1000 miles so please don’t shut down this thread until you have an answer or at least pm me. Thanks!
Thankyou! I think others missed my point but you understood exactly what I meant! If it happens to me again I will most likely call service at my dealer but for sure I will keep y’all posted! Thanks all!

Check your motor mounts. On our 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid, the bolts loosened up after a bit when it was new. My Maverick hybrid is pretty steady on transition. Some transverse mounted power plants had a small shock as a dampener years ago. You can actually see the engine rock with the hood up on transition. If it is almost like "dieseling or run-on", when you experience the "shudder" buy fuel somewhere else.

I've put almost 4000 mi on my Hybrid 2.5L XL Hybrid and simply love this truck! However about 4 times when you first take off the motor will be revving high, sort of like when the choke would be on but then after a minute or 2 it slows down, usually normally but a few times it makes a big shudder, shakes the whole truck before the engine slows down!

Anyone else experience this?

Without driving it myself to be sure, it sounds like you had a hybrid battery with a low state of charge. Nothing to be worried about, depending on driving conditions, it can happen periodically. I've generally noticed it most on 3rd gen hybrid powertrain vehicles (CMax, 2013-2019 Fusion hybrid) with their EV+ mode engaged.

When the vehicle is parked and shut off, and it was driven in a way that would let the battery run as low as possible without the ICE turning on, the battery may be left in a state of charge that won't let it start a cold engine smoothly later. It won't have any problems starting, but the starting RPMs will be lower that usual, so you'll get a rattling/shaking noise for a second as the ICE comes up to speed. It'll usually be followed by slightly higher RPMs for a bit as the ICE charges the High Voltage battery. The EV+ mode on older hybrids would make this more noticeable since it allows more use of the HV battery within an 1/8 mile of a destination, leaving the battery more drained.

I'd still have the dealer verify it with you, if it makes you feel more comfortable, but that'd be my guess.

Also, FWIW, it's completely unrelated to the 12v issues in other posts.

I picked my hybrid up this week and experienced a strong shuddering around 30 MPH when car was transitioning between electric and hybrid. Was under gradual acceleration. Was very abrupt and distinct, definitely not normal, lasted about 3 seconds.

I had this exact same thing happen to my hybrid last week. I ended up letting off the throttle all the way, and then easing back on it and I heard the ICE start up normally. Ever since then, it has been running fine. When it happened, the whole truck shuttered. Felt almost as if the ICE didn’t come on when it was supposed to. This is the first thread I’ve come across that had detailed the same issue.

Yep exactly! But since it hasn’t happened in a while, I’m going to be in the “Wait and see mode!” Thanks for your reply!

Not too sure but I am thinking "Big Shudder" would be a good name of a country band.

Good evening all,

I dropped off my XLT Hybrid at the dealership Saturday morning for this exact thing as well as a few other items. It is Tuesday evening as I'm writing this and I still haven't heard anything from them. Thankfully, I still have my prior vehicle so I'm not hurting so bad having the Maverick there for an extended stay.

I encourage everyone to make notes of any and all items you may find. Even if it doesn't bother you, the more of us that report these items to Ford whether it be through dealers or other means, the more resources they will allocate to correcting these for 22MY owners and for future MY builds.

No one close the thread now, I need somewhere to post an update once I get mine back and it seems we have gathered quite a few members in this thread which may also benefit from the findings.

What did your dealer say? There are many others experiencing a random shudder when going from electric to ICE or vice versa.

Curious to see what the service department says. Even if they can't replicate it, there may be a code set that would indicate a possible issue. This is the biggest reason to visit a dealer soon after an intermittent issue happens; the closer you go to when an issue occurs, the more information a tech can gather
