I've put almost 4000 mi on my Hybrid 2.5L XL Hybrid and simply love this truck! However about 4 times when you first take off the motor will be revving high, sort of like when the choke would be on but then after a minute or 2 it slows down, usually normally but a few times it makes a big shudder, shakes the whole truck before the engine slows down!

Anyone else experience this?

Nah, more like when you first take off and drive approx 500 ft, then slow to a stop (stop sign) the high rev slows down then you get a Big Shudder. Hasn't happened enough to really have it checked out yet but maybe I should.

In no hybrid expert but maybe its an effect of the atkinson cycle motor?

Hybrids are supposed to shake/jerk lightly as the gas engine is constantly turning on and off but I don’t know if thats the issue with yours. Try to replicate it and record a video with the windows up and radio off.

You should be able to hear if thats what it is or not. It just sounds like any other car engine starting without using a starter motor. If you’ve ever push started a manual transmission car in the past, that’s what the gas engine sounds like on the Hybrid.

I guess I didn’t make myself clear! It’s a Big Shudder when something is shutting down! I think I will call the service dept. maybe they can help. Thanks all!

I decided I should get an answer straight from the horses mouth! I was just curious if anyone else had experienced this too. As I said, it has only happened 3 x in 4000 mi. Peace

Feel free to report back what your issue was as I'm sure others in the future would love to see what the problem and solution were!

You dont need to be an expert on hybrid to know the Atkinson cycle engine. I been running a few for years without issue (ok long warm up time). This is without hybrid. Yes the Atkinson has been running in cars for the last decade without hybrids, you might have not known.

So we can eliminate that from the issue.
I never driven either, is the only reason I stated my lack of hybrid expertise. But I do know that engines running different cycles and strokes behave differently, and someone used to one may feel something in the rpms of another that may seem odd. Even the difference between 1 or 2 cyl lawnmower could be jarring enough for concern.

I had a Ford CMax hybrid for years and it never shuddered. I did have this same thing happen to me in my Lariat and it scared me because I test drove a Chevy bolt EV and the moment I got onto the highway it shuddered and died so I was afraid that was going to happen with my lariat😕

Yes, I experienced it early on and I just turned 1000 miles so please don’t shut down this thread until you have an answer or at least pm me. Thanks!
