Fuel economy is 100% based on how one drives. I have been getting 47-50 mpg. I am teaching my son to drive now he is 16 and needing his hours. He does not drive fast but is heavy on the gas at take off, so my mpg has dropped by a few miles a gallon. As well as extra gray hairs as my son drives my new truck :)

Use the EV coach to stay in electric mode when feasible. I mostly use Eco mode.
My average is 43mpg after 25,000 miles.

Current tank, probably 30/70 highway/city.

How did you keep eco mode? or have to select to eco mode again every time start?

When the directions say to hold down OK button on the Left side of the wheel, does it mean the Right side? I don't have an OK button on the Left side.
Yes, the OK button is on the right hand side on the Maverick steering wheel.

I now had to set mine all the way down to 920 to try to get it to match!

I guess I'm too used to driving a police car, to fast, all these years that I get no where near the mileage that everybody else does.

I'm still around 32 mpg after 1800 miles.

Best I ever get is around 37 mpg on one of the Priuses, when I use it, and worse is around 18 mpg on my F-150.

Thanks. I was able to get into the engineering mode and change mine to 950, which coincides with the hand calculated mileage on my truck.

32 is pretty shitty mileage for the Hybrid. I've not had a tank yet, under 40 hand-calculated MPG. I have ~8K on the ODO.

If you turn on the brake coach and have the EV coach on-screen, they will teach you how to drive to become more fuel efficient. If you learn to anticipate stops and brake to get 100% regen, and let the EV Coach help you keep your foot out of the go pedal (and stay in electric mode longer), your MPG should improve dramatically. Slippery mode helps, too. More so than eco., at least in my experience.

To me, it's like playing a game - always trying to see a higher score at the end of the drive.

The hybrid is great but please don't hypermile and impede traffic just to save $0.001. I stick to back roads for a reason. Less traffic and better fuel efficiency.
Ok. Fine.

I'll only hypermile to save $50 a month.

The secret to long term fuel economy is to avoid short trips where the truck never fully warms up. The Maverick because the ICE operates so little, can take several miles to reach normal operating temperature. Until it does your gas mileage will be reduced. More noticeable in cold weather, not so much when it's hot.
I live in Phoenix. When it is over 105F or so the battery will not charge due to the heat so I get lower fuel economy during the extreme heat. It works in the morning when it is cooler but not during the peak heat of the day during the summer.

So if it is below 50F or above 105F I see lower fuel economy during those times.

I drive in Low all the time so I only have to put the truck in drive and then press L. The brake regen is almost 100% and it helps to slow you down quickly. I had to learn how to brake when the regen is this high so please be careful when using this mode as the brake lights dont come on without my foot actually pressing the brakes. I average over 40mpg with over 50% freeway miles.

I have not had any issues running freeway speeds as I find that Low doesn't affect the higher gears in the transmission.

I'm not that worried about gas mileage that I'm going to change my driving habits.
I'm always the one passing everybody else and don't want to be that guy that's driving like they own a Prius, which even when I drive one of the two of those that I own, I still get 37 mpg.

After reviewing the whole situation the window sticker EPA is rated at 37 overall and 33 highway so I'm close.

I mainly bought this truck so I can flat tow it behind my motorhome so, so far I think it was a smart purchase and I'm pretty pleased with it.

I never hypermile if cars are behind me. Which frequently, there aren't any, in the area I live in. Enjoy your Maverick.

Hypermile to your heart's content and save as much money as you can. Just be mindful of the traffic around you.

I have been stuck behind hybrid drivers traveling for long distances at 20mph in 40pmh zones because of the fuel efficiency. I kindly ask people to not impede traffic in this way.

Changing my daily route has saved me far more than $50/mo with minor adjustments in driving style. The hybrid on the back roads here is extremely fuel efficient.

I've been on a freeway maybe 20 times in 20 months.

Side roads for the win. And about the same elapsed time too.

Don't use L in the heat. Don't use L when ambient is above about 75°F.

In city traffic L can warm your battery as much as 2 degrees per minute.

Normal mode will be less than 1 degree and Slippery mode will be less than half of one degree. I've tested this with diagnostic tool.

L heats up the battery internally VERY fast. Regeneration creates internal heat so unless it is cold outside you want to do it gently.

Also, don't forget: L does not turn on your brake lamps but you are slowing as fast as if you are braking. Not really a wise choice in traffic.

I agree with all of your points. Additionally having L on with colder temperatures will cause engine braking when the battery is fully charged/heated.

Use it with caution but it can be helpful if you need it to slow down the vehicle faster and get the best regen possible.

I haven't reset my trip odometer for the last 4 fill-ups, and it's reading 48.1 mpg for that period. Here's my style of driving:
I accelerate quickly (but not aggressively) to the speed limit (usually 45 mph) then back right off the gas; forcing the vehicle into electric mode. I "feather" the gas pedal to keep it in electric, watch ahead for traffic lights and slow gradually to each light (brake coach almost almost always reads 100%, rarely goes below 95%). I avoid expressways and interstates where practicable and check Google Maps to see the time difference between interstates and side roads. If the difference is just a few minutes, I use the side roads.

I picked up my truck on Sunday and I have been driving mostly short trips to and from work (20K round trip). I live on a ridge and work on top of hill but have to drop down into a flat area between the two. It is still early but the thought of only having to fill the tank about once every 2 months is crazy as I am coming from a 3.6L V6.
