So, you leave it in the truck ?It is honestly one of my biggest fears when I go to my property down in the mountains of Western, NC.
Trash usually goes in the bed of the truck - although we do our very best to keep food scraps or other smelly items to a minimum.
Yeah because I don’t want them getting a free or easy meal on my property. So, you leave it in the truck ?
For the bears, overnight ?
I put mine in my truck in the AM when I’m going to town. I’d never leave it not even for an hour.
That would draw bears I would think.
Good thing you did have a dry camp that night.I never have had to use bear spray on my property but trail cams have picked them up numerous times.
I have had to use spray and a mini air horn while hiking up grandfather mountain for an overnighter.
Even though the bear “went away” we knew it never really did. Decided not to cook dinner that night and as we always do - hoisted our mess kits and food up in a tree far from the tent and that bear was back shortly after we turned in trying get what it could.
Yep, cliff bars are my emergency food and carry a life straw in case we run out of or lose our water.Good thing you did have a dry camp that night.
We almost always carry "emergency rations" with us, no matter what we are in or driving. Whether it is dry camping, van camping in remote areas, because of a bear or because of fire danger and no cooking, or even caught in a blizzard, having water and meal bars/energy bars for example handy, it is good to have a plan/alternative.
Cheers,
Andy
I tell you, learning things the hard way is....really hard sometimes. But, when you do learn it you will never forget (or shouldn't in my way of thinking).Yep, cliff bars are my emergency food and carry a life straw in case we run out of or lose our water.
Over the decades I have learned the hard way when I have been unprepared.
John,I made the mistake of leaving garbage in the back of the truck last night. No paint damage but dents on the hood and rear quarter. Also teeth marks in the plastic trim. I made a claim to insurance company. The dealership is giving me a loaner while it is fixed.

Yikes!John,
Good choice buying a hard tonneau cover.
Looks as if it held up pretty good.
Can you imagine what a soft fabric tonneau would look like after the bear tried to get in

Good deal. A $100 lesson learned.Update on the Truck. The dealer has a body shop and they have a specialist who does the paint-free dent removal. I had a $100 deductible, and the truck looks like new again. Lesson learned. No garbage left in truck bed overnight.
