Just had a frustrating experience watching security footage of what looked like a homeless dude rooting through my Maverick after it was left unlocked. Thankfully I don't leave valuables in my car, and the one thing that might have been worth something, an OBD2 dongle, the guy didn't realize was valuable. But I can't seem to find my DMV registration, so annoyingly have to get another one.

I might have forgotten, but I know for a fact that sitting/working/doing stuff around the house does often lead to 'butt dial' style presses on the key fob that has done things like trigger my cars' alarms, unlocked the doors, and opened all the windows. So I don't think this is 100% a "just need to remember" issue.

Main issue is that nearly all new cars I've driven in the past decade or so have optional automatic door locking. I have it on my Chevy Volt 2012 and have been thankful for it. Even with auto-locking I go ahead and press the lock button, but I'm only human and don't always remember. In most cases a car is set up not to auto-lock if it detects the key fob in the car, preventing one major annoyance. So I was really surprised that my otherwise fantastic 2025 Maverick XLT (Lux pkg) doesn't have automatic door-locking as an option. Any word on if we can expect that? It obviously does let software lock the car, and obviously it detects if the key fob is in the car. Seems like it shouldn't be hard, but an option or two may need to be added to the settings menu.

It's been possible for the Lariat and XLT with Lux in the 3 prior models years.

And not done in the software despite however many requests Ford got (or maybe they got a whole lot more complaints from other models that supported it).

Don't hold your breath.

My cheap Buick Encore had both, push button start and walk away auto lock. I got used to both.
I had to give up both of them when I bought my 23 Maverick XLT.🙁
I forgot to add. A self-dimming rear view mirror.

Auto locking won't help if you're prone to triggering the unlock in your pocket as you stated.
Oh it very much does. These things work by locking after a period of inactivity, usually a minute or so. Sure, it's unlocked for like a minute, but that's better than unlocked all night.

I've gotten in the habit of just locking them when we go to bed, whether or not I locked them when I got home. It's a double check for me and peace of mind. Kind of like checking doors before bed, ya know?

Just getting on here to agree. I walk away and leave vehicles unlocked all the time because my previous mazda of 10 years had the auto lock feature. In fact the Ford salesman commented about what a convenient feature it was when I traded it in.

If it isn't there now, I wouldn't hold my breath. Buy technology for what it does today, not what you hope it will do tomorrow. No Ford vehicles, to my knowledge, do this, so I doubt Ford is going to implement it any time soon, and even less likely in an update to existing vehicles.

My wife’s Honda Pilot has walk-away locks but when I was shopping for that feature a found very few new cars have the feature.

It probably could be an easy add on with Ford Pass. The same way you schedule remote start you could have a remote auto-lock if the vehicle is unlocked say for longer than 3 minutes, or whatever you choose.

My 2021 RAV uses the Toyota app and I get notified if the RAV is left unlocked for more the a couple of minutes. It had reminded me a few times to lock it after I got to my office or when my wife or son leave it unlocked when they park at the house. It will also tell me if a window is left open. Why doesn't Ford Pass have this feature? It is a mystery! The RAV also will not start is all the doors are not locked.
