Just had a frustrating experience watching security footage of what looked like a homeless dude rooting through my Maverick after it was left unlocked. Thankfully I don't leave valuables in my car, and the one thing that might have been worth something, an OBD2 dongle, the guy didn't realize was valuable. But I can't seem to find my DMV registration, so annoyingly have to get another one.
I might have forgotten, but I know for a fact that sitting/working/doing stuff around the house does often lead to 'butt dial' style presses on the key fob that has done things like trigger my cars' alarms, unlocked the doors, and opened all the windows. So I don't think this is 100% a "just need to remember" issue.
Main issue is that nearly all new cars I've driven in the past decade or so have optional automatic door locking. I have it on my Chevy Volt 2012 and have been thankful for it. Even with auto-locking I go ahead and press the lock button, but I'm only human and don't always remember. In most cases a car is set up not to auto-lock if it detects the key fob in the car, preventing one major annoyance. So I was really surprised that my otherwise fantastic 2025 Maverick XLT (Lux pkg) doesn't have automatic door-locking as an option. Any word on if we can expect that? It obviously does let software lock the car, and obviously it detects if the key fob is in the car. Seems like it shouldn't be hard, but an option or two may need to be added to the settings menu.
