When the headlight switch is in the "Auto" position, usually the headlight symbol with the "A" in it shows on the dash (see picture). But this comes and goes at random. I took this picture this morning after starting out, but after a few miles, the symbol went away. I didn't touch any of the controls.
I'm just curious why this is happening.

I would imagine it's giving you the symbol when you headlights are actually ON (dark). When you're daytime running lights are on (light) it won't show the symbol as your headlights aren't on any longer.

I'm pretty sure that indicator just means that your high beams are on auto. the A means auto high beams are set to automatically come on if necessary. Meaning that if necessary the The high beams will automatically kick on/off depending on darkness and light. I believe if you turn it off that will only show, without the A and I think maybe blue, if you turn the high beams on. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

If you turn on the truck and leave the headlight switch alone, it will turn on headlights when it senses it's "dark enough" or if the wipers are left on. AND it will active high beams on and off automatically.

If you turn the headlight switch to ON, it will not do the auto high beams, AND you will need to turn it off or get chimed at when you turn the truck off. (Although the lights will turn off after a couple minutes anyway).

I like auto brights but sometimes it takes awhile for mine to work when on the highway? Anyone else have this happen?

Never noticed. I rarely used brights when you had to manually turn them on because I got tired of turning them on, and then forgetting they were on and having somebody flash me, then turning them off then turning them on. So I never used them. Now they just do it automatically and I never even noticed to be honest with you.

So today when I started the Maverick, the "A"light indicator was on. As I pulled out into the sun, the indicator went off -- so KrS is right on the money. It indicates that the lights are actually on, with the switch in the auto position.
