I reached out to a local vendor regarding installing one of these. He indicated that he could do it but I'd need to get someone else to remove the oem one.

According to him the lug used on most new fords are very difficult to remove without the glass cracking even with the proper removal tool.

Have any of you experienced this? I'm running a 2025 maverick Lariat

Haven't heard that one before. Very curious what you learn.

I know the mirrors your talking about with the spring tab lock, Maverick doesn't have that.

Remove the plastic cover above the mirror then remove the Torx screw at the mirror mount & it just slides off upwards easily

Agreed that the Mavericks are just a cover over a torx bit. Very easy and no real chance of doing any windshield damage. I changed my '25 Lariat's RVM last spring, and it was very easy.

I think they are talking about the small silver piece glued to the windshield, playing with that will crack the windshield.
You can take off the current mirror like others have said.
When you get an auto-dimming mirror, you just need one that has the same mount type; so you can use what is already glued to the windshield as is.

I have been through this. I bought a ‘17 Fusion auto-dimming mirror, when my ‘22 Maverick was waiting to get built. It arrived and the mount was not compatible. It bought one of the Kia mirrors, that were the rage back then, and swapped the mount from the Kia mirror to the Ford mirror. Then it just slipped onto the windshield.

The easiest route is to get an auto-dimming mirror for an ‘20 thru ‘25 Escape (or Bronco Sport). Those have the same mounting type.

I used one off a KIA for my 2025 Lariat. Fit perfectly.

Can you tell me where you purchased your auto dimming mirror to replace the one that came with it?

The mirror I installed come from eBay. In checking back on my purchase, it wasn't a KIA but a 2011-2018 OEM Hyundai Gentex Rear View Mirror Homelink Hidden Compass Auto Dim. That was its' full title description, but it was also only $35. I was looking for the Homelink feature in particular. Other than being a tad larger (maybe a 1/2" wider) the mount and wiring were a snap.
