Audio system / subs upgrades "bass"

I see there are a few looking to upgrade the sound which is awesome.

I'm still waiting on my mav and hopefully will receive it as soon as fuel tank is replaced, but I have a question that hopefully someone here can answer. The space behind the rear seat to the back wall. I have yet to find the actual width/depth of that space. I have seen a few prefab boxes that have a bottom depth of 8" and I hope it will fit. Just from the few photos I have seen it seems to be around 6-8", but I need actual confirmation.

I'll take some measurements for you, I'll see if I can come up with something to measure the depth with the seat latched.
I tried to fit a sub there and nothing but underseat powered subs like the kicker HS8 and HS10 fits there due to their depth.

I went with a rockford fosgate P300-8P below the seat with the plastic tray removed from the passenger side.

So all on this thread is of minimal interest to me as I like it as quiet as possible while I am driving as I suffer from "FONHLH" = Fear Of Not Hearing Locomotive Horns ! Never the less why not cutting holes in the roof for speakers and covering their backsides with a "helmet"? Paint it black and name your truck DARTH?

I put a shoebox back there that is 14”x14”x5.5” to show you what it fits like…. The bottom has a little more space, but with 5+ inches as high as the box goes, the seat won’t close - see video

How about something like the Rockford Fosgate R2S 12" or 10" loaded enclosures? They're 5.25" at the bottom but 3.25" at the top which is close to the height of the compact all-in-one units like the Kicker Hideaway.

10" - 13.5" H x 19.0" L x 5.25" (bottom) x 3.25" (top)
12" - 13.5" H x 27.375" L x 5.25" (bottom) x 3.25" (top)

I see you like the boom. I too like the boom!

I am really curious for ideas on what to do with the maverick. I want to do something under the seat. My children are 3 and 5, so no turning the back seat into a speaker box area. I was thinking of removing the plastic storage area and putting just some simple subs with a simple amp. I'm a JL fan when it bass. Kicker is my close second. Alpine is doable if I don't have any other options.

The plastic area under the seat is almost exactly the same as if u remove it. If your going under the seats 10s will be your limit with a sealed box at that. No room to port. For full size subs could do a shallow mount 12 like jls tw5 which likes a sealed box anyway.

Not a fan of Rockford anymore... if I was going shallow mount I'd go JL. But I went big boy bass so no worries anyway lol. But tbh the shallow mount subs do well for 95% of ppl who want good bass. I'd say the jl tw5 12 hits as hard as a full size jlw3 12in. And better Sq... also alot more of a hit to your pocketbook though. as for the Rockford they hit ok but not my choice these days.

Back in the day I had an Acura Legend 2 door, took out the back seat and had 2 18" rockfords inverted firing into a sealed box and 2 10" MA Audio subs in the trunk... Hit super hard. That car was stolen and stripped and dumped in a lake, haven't really built a system since then.

However this truck makes me want to build something again, nothing crazy (got 2 kids so I can't remove the back seat again) and I don't want to go crazy. I've already set up my ipad mini as my "head unit" and I like the direction that is going. Needs a little less in mounting depth. But it's a 13in not 10...

Bummer to hear about the rockford, it's been far too long since I was in this space, I've got a JL 10TW3-D4 in the cart now, they have some scratch and dent for $367. I might just order that now to get that price and figure out the amp later. I'm going to replace the stock speakers and probably drive those with an amp as well, what's up in the air for me right now is just completely bypassing the existing stereo and using my ipad mini as a head unit (right now it's mounted in front of the stock stereo) versus routing through the stock unit via bluetooth like I have it now.

This level of audio is all new to me but for my amp choice, I was leaning hard towards the audio control lc 5 1300 as a while system amp with the front door and tweeters on one channel, new rear components on their own channel, and a small sub on that 5th channel.
