Are the hybrids problem vehicles?

Its less complex because the are less unique components. Each of the fewer components have an established history independently well over 100+years. Edison had a electric motor battery powered by a battery in early 1900. This engine design was based on earlier than common engines. I.e an original design was replaced then ‘rediscovered’ to match this role. A genius and incredibly simple idea eliminated the original engine complex gearing and made it as simple as a two stroke engine.
On the other hand the common engine evolves and improves by adding more and more layers of unique components.
Adjustability, in the common engine all power at the wheels are controlled by amount of gas given.
The Hybrid: any of the main components can be cut out completely And the truck will still move by design.
( excluding actual damage to transmission gears, the gears will always be moving if truck is moving )

I know this because my Mavericks talk to me. I mean, all the time. It starts with the fasten seatbelt chime. Then a screen comes on that shows where I am sitting. Then a voice warning me to put my hands on the steering wheel. And sometimes, when it is very, very quiet, I can just barely hear a faint message that says "You know I'm going to disintegrate soon, don't you?".

It is kind of eerie.

But they are so much fun to drive and so economical with fuel, that I will enjoy driving them for a while, and then sell them at a huge profit, just before they disintegrate.

You probably should not try this at home.

My hybrid has been at the dealer twice for a total of 5 weeks. Both times due to the harness. Supposedly it’s ready Monday and the harness issue is fixed for good.

I have an XLT Hybrid with nearly 8k miles. Only issue I've had is a dead 12 volt battery, which I think may have been my fault. Other than that, I've been enjoying an average 38mpg in a pick up. It's not the best single vehicle I've owned, but it replaced two vehicles as it does the job of both.

I have been watching closely for hybrid issues (because that is what I ordered) and though completely unscientific I think if you drop out the battery cable issues there are more reported eco boost problems than hybrid ones. The battery cable issue has caused a lot of problem reports because it manifests in several different ways and especially early on many people reported problems that were eventually attributed to the cable.

But that cable is a QC issue not a design problem. It shouldn't have happened, but I don't think it will be an issue going forward. Personally, I am more comfortable getting a hybrid than I am that ecoboost engine. But that's just me. Maybe if I had ordered the ecoboost instead I would feel different, I don't know.

Fuel in the oil
Turbo issues in general

But I'm not sure if those are current problems or historical. Like I said just my impression, totally unscientific and subjective. I do have a personal bias against turbos in general but that's old news from a bad experience years ago.

2. Nobody comes on here and posts hey, I am at 10k miles and not one problem. It’s only people with problems so it seems way bigger then it really is.

So I am curious, and this may kick a hornet's nest. But it qualitatively speaking it seems like there are more issues with the hybrids than the ecoboosts. Its to the point where I find myself reading posts and saying "thank goodness I didn't order a hybrid". But this could also be selective memory based upon the fact I did order an ecoboost. So is it just me, or are there way more issues with the hybrids than the ecoboosts? Is it to the point where one would say getting a hybrid is a problem vehicle?

If we look at recalls alone, they are about equal, because some are for both. A lot of these are really just first year issues that happen with new vehicles. In this case it's often production or supplier issues, rather than design problems with the vehicle itself, regardless of it being hybrid or EB.

In the long run, I can see a lot of EB owners with dead turbos because they actually believe ridiculous maintenance scheduled. No turbo vehicle should go over 5k miles for an oil change, particularly on a small engine. Hybrid owners might have it worse, it also has a reduciously long oi change interval. I'm still going to do it every 5k miles / 8k km, just like I've done with every vehicle I've owned, hybrid and non-hybrid.

We do need to keep in mind that people who don't have problems aren't posting much here or on the reddit/Facebook Maverick groups, they are just happily driving their Mavericks.

Could be more first year and QC issues. While they are the same body, the hybrid and Ecoboost are different enough to basically be separate models. Not wanting first year gremlins is one of the reasons I held out ordering. Been there with a '14 Cherokee. Never again...

Everybody needs to qualify their model when they post like 22EBXL, 22EBXLT, 22EBLRT, 22HYBXL, 22 HYBXLT, ETC... Then all could tell what's happening to what.....

The only outstanding recalls on the EB are for units built before the middle of July (airbags) and those with the 4k tow package for the brake controller. If there are any outstanding recalls when your vehicle arrives, they won't be able to sell it to you until they are fixed.

Some early EB had improperly installed rear seat belts (we are talking units made last fall), and for ones with the spray in bed liner, also build a long time ago, that had holes drilled into the fuel tank. These are no longer issues.
