I like the feature on Apple Car Play on my 24 Lariat Hybrid but also find a lack of apps from the IOS store that are friendly to the feature (maybe Im searching the app store wrong)
Specifically I have a MyQ Garage Door that I would love to add to CarPlay but unfortunately Chamberlin Garage Door is not supported (yet) and they discontinued HomeBridge. So I probably will stick to my phone or order another “old school push button style”

Has anyone been successful with adding any garage door opener to MyCar play that has been successful to opening a garage door made by Chamberlin/Lift master?
Are there any hacks that you have found that allows you to add more apps seamlessly??
In addition, what are your favorite other apps that you have found works well with CarPlay (Other than Music & Navigation)
Ive done the YouTube/Google search, would love to get a weather app that does not cost $$20-30 a year subscription, I love the Dominos, Dunkin, Panera apps would love more.
Appreciate your thoughts an feedback

MyQ discontinued their 3rd party API. So there is no outside service that will work with any MyQ device. This is why HomeBridge no longer works. 3rd party services cannot request the garage door info. This is to force you to use their app where they introduced ads. Unfortunately, this is why HomeKit will probably not be supported anytime soon, no ads with HomeKit.

There is a device from a company called Meross that sells a HomeKit compatible garage door opener, but I haven't tried it to see if it works with CarPlay. It is on amazon for around $40.

MyQ still integrates to Ring, and Ring is still wholly owned by and deeply integrated to Amazon.

MyQ was the only way to use Amazon Key as of ~2 years ago when I last looked at it. (I decided I didn't want Amazon contract delivery persons looking in my garage, let alone being in it.)

My real point of this is to ask: are you sure that an Amazon skill can't open MyQ? I would expect that it can.

Several Ford vehicles have Alexa built in, my Bronco is one, but my Maverick is not. I believe you could open it with a command from Alexa mobile, or an automation routine, but to me that's not worth doing compared to simply pushing a garage door opener button or homelink in-vehicle button. (Mav doesn't have that, either, but you can get a Ford visor or any number of homelink rear view mirrors.)

Thanks, I will take a look at those suggestions, I agree if I can't get CarPlay, to open its not worth spending a ton of money when my phone works great and or a door opener button or homelink in-vehicle button

what I am saying is that public api requests are not supported anymore. Much like the FordPass shortcuts for iOS pull api requests from ford to get tokens. If ford removes that support the shortcuts won’t work.

If amazon (or other companies) makes a partnership with myq for api requests things will work. I am sure Amazon will pay myQ for the privilege.

since homebridge is free and all those api requests cost money myQ pulled support.

I do not know what Amazon’s integration with CarPlay is to know if a skill could be run from it.

ah. that is probably due to abuse and cyberattacks.

I have read, but cannot verify, that people using hombridge accounted for 100,000 plus api requests a day. As the homebridge app constantly checked for open or closed status.

I wouldn't be surprised, and I would include bad/lazy/inefficient coding in 'abuse'.

pretty easy to rate limit the web application firewall or API, but even easier to just turn it off, lol.

You could look into installing a homelink mirror or install the driver sunshade from a bronco and wire those buttons to work. I agree an app would be easier and cheaper and I hope you find a solution.

I made this post regarding the OBD fusion app that allows you to track real time data and display it on CarPlay while driving.

When MyQ locked their system down I tried the Meross option with limited success. I then installed a Tailwind opener which does work with our MyQ openers. This adapter, app and car puck combination has been VERY reliable for automatically opening the door for my wife. The few times it's been out of sync was low battery on car puck or had to power cycle controller.

For android the car puck is not required only Apple.

It's been in for a while now so I can't remember if the app was on the carplay or AA screens. We've not needed it as it's been pretty reliable opening the door when my wife gets home.

https://gotailwind.com/

If I remember it can do 2 doors, we've really only used it in the 1 door even though the sensors and such are on the second door.

I had some glitches at first with the setup. But then I just redid it and used my wife's apple phone vice my android and it's worked since then.

I wish MyQ worked on Apple CarPlay. Went old school and bought the clicker on Amazon for around $11. Works great.

But can you actually control it from there?

Yes, opens and closes by screen touching. In fact , it emits an annoying beeping sound when closing that doesn’t occur manually. The app only appears on my screen within certain distance (1-2 blocks) from home.

Interesting. And you never had to do anything special to get it to show up?
