Just had LONE in for an oil change and found this in the rear door pocket when I got home. It's a sealed envelope and from the imprint appears to be a simple pin with a loop. Any ideas? Should I take it back? Or, put it in the glove box and forget about it?

Looks like a tow hook for winching the truck. It would go into the threaded points either in the front or rear bumper. I never checked mine to see if it uses one, but all of my Volvo cars use them.

Should have mentioned, it's only about 2.5 inches long and the weight of a heavy paperclip. Would have to be a very, very small Mav.

Yep, it wouldn't work well for that!

My recommendation is that you do not discard it, but save it in case you need emergency towing, and give it to service personnel if you do. I cannot divulge how I divined that information, though.

I have the metal pin in my glove box and see the Manual Park Release on the Transmission.

Workshop Manual has the steps for using it to get the transmission into neutral:

Transmission Park by Wire Manual Release

Activation
1. NOTE: If the vehicle battery is dead or there is no electrical power available, connect an external power source.

Apply the parking brake.

2. Remove the air cleaner.
Refer to: Air Cleaner (303-12A Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.0L EcoBoost (177kW/240PS) – MI4, Removal and Installation) .

3. Remove the bolt and the manual park release.

Agreed!

I suspect that the actual procedure most commonly used to get a Maverick EcoBoost with a dead battery to shift into neutral is simply to charge the battery until it is has sufficient charge to facilitate an electric shift into neutral using the rotary gear selector. Much less elaborate!

Let's instead just tell folks that the pin is a genuine OEM Ford bong-poker. That's just as believable IMHO!

Thank you! Nothing to do with the oil change. It'll be in the glove box until needed. :)
Could you change that to "unless needed"? :frown:  (...off to find mine!!!)
