This is a must have if you're doing any kind of off-road driving. I've discovered the winch is useful for removing dead tress and the like from the road rather than moving your vehicle.
Hopefully, for the off-road people, this can be installed without too much trouble.
As someone who owns a winch and uses it atleast every couple weeks for this or that and offroads nearly every day and used to go really hardcore offroad regularly back home in Ohio. This truck while more capable than a subaru and others. Im just not sure this is the type of truck that if you cet stuck in it that you want to go forward. Where the trail may be worse and worse. If there is a log or something in the way. Turn around and winch it out of the way from the rear hitch. Or hook it up to your front hooks and pull against a tree behind you. Alot of times getting stuck is just a matter of the wrong line. Instead of pulling yourself through the worst of it. Pull yourself backwards and take a different line. Or use your saw to chop some wood to fill holes or go back and stack rocks to make it through. However we are pushing the capabilities of what you should be putting a unibody with about 6" of suspension travel through. I will take mine offroad for sure. But I wont be using like I use my solid axle comanche.

Great advice all around. I really love the Jeep pickup. I see Jeep re-designed and re-issued the pick-up with the Gladiator badge. Let's face it, the Maverick is not really designed for hard core off-road. It lacks a locking rear differential and the independent rear axles lack the same articulation as a solid axle meaning less contact with the road if you get twisted. I believe the AWD FX-4 was designed more for those who have to deal with snow and mud on regular to moderately rough roads.

this is the other option something portable.

And yes, The Maverick is not capable of Extreme Off-Road. Still If I fall into a ditch on a snowy day a winch will be very helpful.

Absolutely! This looks like a perfect solution as long as you have the rescue hooks. I'm sure there are many people who will find your suggestion a terrific and reasonable option. Great post!

I wouldnt recommend those two pullers for vehicle recovery. They are more for material handling and atv recovery. If you have the FX4 with the two hooks you would do better to keep a come-a-long ratcheting puller and a couple straps or a synthetic winch line extension. Some larger come-a-longs are rated for 8000lb which is powerful enough to pull a stuck vehicle out(which generally requires 1.5 times the vehicle weight).
You could reasonably setup a recovery kit with 2-3 straps, 2-3 shackles, and a come-a-long for about $150 and it will all fit under the back seat.
Come alongs will only pull you about 8 feet at a time. If your recovery is longer than that, you need extra straps or logs or bricks to hold the vehicle after your 1st pull to re-adjust your pull line and set up for a 2nd pull and so on.

While a winch would be cool on this truck and I'm sure someone will install one, maybe me after I pay it off, but I dont really think its necessary for what this truck will get people into.

Lots of experienced information in your post. Thanks. With a rating of only 750lb pull, I wouldn't think most experienced off-roaders would use these as vehicle recovery ... only for clearing the road of hazards. I think your suggestion of a come-a-long is good advice. I'm not planning on using my hybrid off road, but I am interested in learning as much as possible about the Maverick in all its configurations. Truly a remarkable vehicle.

If you have hitch o the back its still not the worst idea to have a come along and a couple straps. Could get you out of a situation in a grass parking lot or in snowy weather. Also works great for securing a heavy load.

Looking at putting a front hitch one, we have always had front hitches on our vans and trucks. Has anyone already did this? if so, what did type did you buy and how did you put it on there. any issues?
You might be able to use a FITS adapter...
