Anybody downloaded IO 26 yet for CarPlay

It’s an iOS update to iOS 26.

You need a compatible phone & you have to go into System/General/Software Update & request iOs26.

No automatic updates to 26 yet.

I think when you do the iPhone updateto 26 it’s there.

I was hoping to have video playback while parked which apple says was added, but only get audio update. I guess ford needs to add it. Disappointing

It’s been a nice feature update so far, but only 24h into it. There’s plenty of YouTubers online with videos about the CarPlay features to check out. I do like the new widgets and the ability to disable CarPlay screenshots. Also updated my Apple Watch too. iPhone 15 Pro and an Apple Watch Series 10.

I have had some minor UI bugs with apps like Waze while driving. In my wide 2025 display, swapping between the full screen mode and the multi-app display (CarPlay, not talking about the split CarPlay/Ford 70/30 or so), Waze will bug out and need to be swapped back out and into focus. Usually my music app and then back into Waze and then the UI pops in fine. It was updated recently, but I’ve noticed Waze “supports” OEM navigation second screens, but only Apple Maps shows for the Maverick. The latter of my complaint is a Waze thing more than an iOS issue, apologies for the O/T.

I will add this, it fixed the poor Bluetooth connectivity issues I was having with wireless CarPlay and my AirPods.

Looking to see if it’s worth the update,
Seems it has been out now and wondering if it’s better.

I did it yesterday and would say it is worth it. I always felt CarPlay looked a little cheesy to me. Exactly what it was. An add on to the Infotainment system. Now it looks more like it is a factory install. I can’t really speak to improved functionality yet because I haven’t driven much, but just on appearance alone it is an improvement.

I upgraded to 26 yesterday and my crash issues, at least so far, went away. The last few weeks each trip in the maverick would at some point cause the audio to glitch out, then it would freeze in silence, then carplay would restart. Each and ever time.

This was on an iPhone 15 with the latest updates, and my trip to work is only about 15 min.

So far yesterday to work and then back, no issues, no restarts.

Though I dont like ios26 in terms of how it looks on the phone, reminds me of windows vista.

I've been running it through the public beta cycle with a few oddities popping up with Waze. It's been completely stable the last couple of weeks. I'm not sure what the general release version is, I'm currently on IOS 26.0 (23A341)

How does one go about doing the CarPlay up date?

Check to make sure your iPhone is one that can receive the iOS 26 update and then just let the phone/apple do its thing. When updating, you will be given a choice of going to the next higher version of 18.x.x or iOS 26. Choose 26, be prepared to wait a while- 26 is a pretty big download.

It will give you an estimated DL time… in hours! I think mine was 6 hours.

If you have automatic updates enabled that will NOT get you 26. Only the latest. You must go in and request 26 currently.

6 hours???!! Mine (16 pro) and wife (SE 3rd gen) took only 15-20 minutes or so...

Could in part be the lame WiFi I was on and or difference in 15 pro max & 16 pro processor.

Was the lame Wi-Fi. My old 13 installed iOS 26 in less than 30 minutes.
