Did you not see the second graphic in my post? The key blade slides out of the fob as shown. That’s why the driver door has the ability to use a key, as a backup. Thanks for the feedback so far. To clarify this is a Lariat lux so the key has no blade. While I did learn something new about the backup location, I do not believe this to be a key issue as that would not explain why entering the code on the driver's side keypad to unlock the door was also unresponsive.
There is a key hidden within your fob. Press the area that has the ridges, that the above member is pointing to, and then pull on the silver part. This key allows you to unlock the door. Thanks for the feedback so far. To clarify this is a Lariat lux so the key has no blade. When I went in to do the fire hazard recall, the first thing they did was inspect my battery and harness. I didn't ask them to, they just did it.@Ford Motor Company
Obviously the Dumb F**** at Ford have learned nothing in the past several months, since these problems have been reported here and in many other places. Hope they get their S*** together before mine are built over the next 6 weeks. Come on Toyota…..build it and I will come.
Thanks...learned something! It’s where you can attach other keys, press the buttons right next to it and it will pop out. Remember to do this when left to get serviced. That way you have your other keys with you. They only need the fob.
Good luck!Update...my dealership electronics mechanic called. They could not reproduce the problem and no error codes were logged. Since the Mav was working correctly for them they said they could do nothing further at this time. When I went to pick up the vehicle the mechanic spent about 20 minutes with me. We popped the hood and I explained the concern about the wiring harness. He inspected the cable / joint that has been in question with the bad solder joint. He tugged on it pretty hard a couple of times and it was solid. He said since the FOB uses RF that there was a chance there was interference. Not sure if I buy that but I have the Mav back and will see what happens...wish me luck!!!
Seriously, I hope it was a one time fluke and that you have no other issues. But hey, at least you learned about the hidden key in the fob!Good luck!
Maybe the battery harness is the one thing they have an abundance of. And they’re all defective to some extent.Dear lord I would have assumed this would have been fixed on the assembly line by now.
Not a Maverick but I had a friend who couldn't get his keyless entry/start fob to work at all at sporting event we were at. I had to show him how the actual key part came out to get into his car. We happened to be under a tv/radio tower which we figured caused the weirdness. Worked fine after getting away from the tower but we had a rough time getting it to stay running long enough to get far enough away.Update...my dealership electronics mechanic called. Ya. I feel the same way. And a jumper is now necessary on a new vehicle?Ford needs to do something about these hybrid issues... This is not a good look for them... I just got my hybrid and I'm paranoid everytime I turn it off if it will start again... Seems they have not updated anything with later production... My gut is telling me it's going to happen at some point....
Yeah I bought a jump box to keep in it.. I love the truck just hope it's reliable. That's why I bought a new vehicle. I traded in a reliable 15 year old Kia that all I did over the 6 years I owned it was tires and oil changes...Ya. I feel the same way. And a jumper is now necessary on a new vehicle?
Come on FORD. Do something about this!
I am old and have a new Mav with the battery problems. It is at the dealer now and I told them I needed an ABM battery put in. Even so, now I don't trust this vehicle. I guess I will wait for the new battery, then trade the vehicle for say a Kia Soul, heard they were good. At my age I don't need this hassle.Received my Mav about 25 days ago after waiting a year to get it. Was about to post a 1,000 mile review which was going to be very favorable! On my way home from vacation in Bar Harbor Maine, stopped for lunch (at 1,155 miles). When I got out of the car I did the usual double lock on the FOB but did not get the usual honk of the horn. Did it 2 more times and then got the honk...but I immediately got worried. Had lunch and then went out. Went to unlock and nothing. Tried the door code...no luck.
Since I was aware of this potential issue I had a battery booster jump pack in the vehicle...but if you can't unlock the vehicle you are out of luck. Luckily after repeatedly hitting unlock...it eventually unlocked. When I got in I tried to start it but instead got a message saying "No Key Detected". I got my battery pack out and hooked it up...hit boost. Went to start the Mav and instantly it started. When I got ready to go, I could not move the dial from Park to Drive and still was getting the "No Key Detected" message. It took about 2 or 3 minutes for the key to be detected.
Based on what I learned on the Mav Truck Club I knew not to shut off the vehicle again until I got it to my dealership. I was 2 hours away from the dealership and called ahead. This is where having a good dealership matters, they immediately arranged to have a loaner car ready for me. I had a printout of various dead Mav posts indicating the service reports from other dealerships identifying wiring harness issues as the likely issue. I provided them with this. We will see what becomes of this and will keep you posted. I love my Mav...routinely getting 40+ mpg and is doing everything I hoped for. In a weird way I am glad this happened now so that I can get this fixed and hopefully will not need to worry when this will happen again in the future.
Anyone that has a Mav hybrid should have a battery booster with them. I used this one....but there are many good ones out there. There should be a TSB/Recall for this! I reported this to the NHTSA .
