Received my Mav about 25 days ago after waiting a year to get it. Was about to post a 1,000 mile review which was going to be very favorable! On my way home from vacation in Bar Harbor Maine, stopped for lunch (at 1,155 miles). When I got out of the car I did the usual double lock on the FOB but did not get the usual honk of the horn. Did it 2 more times and then got the honk...but I immediately got worried. Had lunch and then went out. Went to unlock and nothing. Tried the door code...no luck.

Since I was aware of this potential issue I had a battery booster jump pack in the vehicle...but if you can't unlock the vehicle you are out of luck. Luckily after repeatedly hitting unlock...it eventually unlocked. When I got in I tried to start it but instead got a message saying "No Key Detected". I got my battery pack out and hooked it up...hit boost. Went to start the Mav and instantly it started. When I got ready to go, I could not move the dial from Park to Drive and still was getting the "No Key Detected" message. It took about 2 or 3 minutes for the key to be detected.

Based on what I learned on the Mav Truck Club I knew not to shut off the vehicle again until I got it to my dealership. I was 2 hours away from the dealership and called ahead. This is where having a good dealership matters, they immediately arranged to have a loaner car ready for me. I had a printout of various dead Mav posts indicating the service reports from other dealerships identifying wiring harness issues as the likely issue. I provided them with this. We will see what becomes of this and will keep you posted. I love my Mav...routinely getting 40+ mpg and is doing everything I hoped for. In a weird way I am glad this happened now so that I can get this fixed and hopefully will not need to worry when this will happen again in the future.

Anyone that has a Mav hybrid should have a battery booster with them. I used this one....but there are many good ones out there. There should be a TSB/Recall for this! I reported this to the NHTSA .

Did you try the backup location for the key fob?

Also, there is a key blade inside the fob for manual unlocking. Push the button next to the keyring slot and slide it out. That gets you in the door to get your jump box hooked up.

Hi...no...I was unaware of this option. On the risk of sounding dumb, how would/could that help with the issue I described...can it override the key lock or something like that? Thanks.

Well, apparently it’s not just the early builds anymore. So sorry it happened to yours.

Ford needs to do something about these hybrid issues... This is not a good look for them... I just got my hybrid and I'm paranoid everytime I turn it off if it will start again... Seems they have not updated anything with later production... My gut is telling me it's going to happen at some point....

The "No Key Detected" messages sound more like a dead/faulty key. The backup location is where there's a transmitter/receiver and can passively authenticate a dead key.

As mentioned, it would get you in right away with the key blade, then you could try the backup location for the fob to see if it would start without fussing around for a few minutes. When the fob battery is dead, it can still be used to start the truck. The backup location basically acts like a card reader for a tap-to-pay credit card or Apple Pay et al - it doesn't require battery power from the fob.

Just pointing these things out, most people aren't aware of them.

@Ford Motor Company

Obviously the Dumb F**** at Ford have learned nothing in the past several months, since these problems have been reported here and in many other places. Hope they get their S*** together before mine are built over the next 6 weeks. Come on Toyota…..build it and I will come.

Sorry this happened to you. The good news is you have a jump start box and folks here have educated us regarding the FOB.

This happened to me and was a total shock since everything was great the last few months. Hard to understand why there has been no recall or at least a TSB. No excuse for this FORD!

Dear lord I would have assumed this would have been fixed on the assembly line by now.

Thanks for the feedback so far. To clarify this is a Lariat lux so the key has no blade. While I did learn something new about the backup location, I do not believe this to be a key issue as that would not explain why entering the code on the driver's side keypad to unlock the door was also unresponsive.

Even the keyless entry key fob has a key.

This is why i don’t want to pay luxury for anything but an XL. Stuff breaks and I don’t feel bad at all. Will definitely flip my hybrid when it comes Not going to put up with this nonsense. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

It’s where you can attach other keys, press the buttons right next to it and it will pop out. Remember to do this when left to get serviced. That way you have your other keys with you. They only need the fob.
