Hit 70k so swapped my oil to 5w50 amsoil because I’m doing some heavy hauling in the heat the next few months. Trans fluid with amsoil not the ultra low viscosity. And ptu fluid. Also drain flushed and filled with engine ice for coolant.

All fluids looked good going out. Did rdu a few weeks back.

The normal stuff on the magnets and fluids looked very very good even after all the abuse I’ve put them through. I swapped everything early to amsoil and redline.

Interesting that yours looks so good when all of ours are blackened garbage by 7k miles!

My PTU fluid looked great at 25k. Transmission...not so much.

Trans fluid looked good enough I decided to not even snap a picture. It looked worse when I changed it at 20k
But when I did that I drained and filled multiple time till it all looked new with amsoil.
Maybe fluid matter? This is the ptu after 50l of a lot of towing and off roading. Dunes mainly.

Ah makes more sense. I thought you were saying this was first change for all of them at 70k.

Thanks for your post.people swapping all these fluids out at 20-30k seems like such a waste of money. I will probably do these fluid changes around 70-80 k also.

He's already swapped his fluid out multiple times.

It's not a waste, but to each their own. I'm sure your PTU and RDU will be good for 60-61k miles

I’ve had several high mileage vehicles with this same ptu. I prefer to change them at 20k with trans fluid and then I don’t sweat it as much I can say that this change was 50k of very hard miles and both the trans fluid and the ptu looked in better shape than the ford fluids that came out at 20k.

Was any damage done by factory stuff probably not. But I like knowing that it will be fine and some high end fluids definitely hold up better than the factory stuff.

I hope 🙏🏽 more than 20,000. I understand they may have used, water like lubricant. But even 36,000 is the bumper to bumper.

Just to clarify — the PTU doesn’t have a filter like a transmission, and it runs hot under load. Heat + no filtration = faster fluid breakdown. Mine came from the factory with less fluid than spec, and what came out at 5K miles looked bad.

I get that some folks trust the 36K warranty — I prefer to trust preventive care. Swapping fluid every 20K is cheap insurance for a part I expect to last 200K miles. $20/qt of AMSOIL and 15 minutes well spent. Drain & Fill .

Not trying to scare anyone — just sharing what I’ve seen. Drive safe. 👊
