FWIW, I had my niece's 2015 Miata (no original screen at all) updated with a modern head unit at a local specialty store. I was amazed how professional and affordable it was. I might have the cost wrong (crappy memory), but I seem to remember that $500 got me a great system, with backup camera, and with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, installed. That included a complete replacement for the mounting fascia. So it looks original. I had them install heated seats too.

I'd wander down to your nearest specialist shop and ask them what they can do. What would be really cool would be if that stupid cubbyhole could be replaced with a 12" wide screen.

My head unit in my 2014 BMW M235 died last year and the factory replacement was $1,900. They wouldn’t even sell me an upgrade or install one, it doesn’t even have Apple Carplay.

Put a new battery in it $400, charge pipe $700+ and $1,900 head unit so that was enough spending on it last year. I don’t drive it much 23,000 miles (8 years old) but its manual so its a forever car. $700 for Carplay isn’t worth it for me because my miles will drop a lot with the new Maverick and a 2020 X3.

Go buy an iPad mini. Every streaming video or audio with no restrictions while the vehicle is in motion.
I like the way you think.

Ford Maverick Aftermarket Headunit? Samsung ta

Totally Mickey Mouse, but the apps. I want to use, offline navigation, and it doesn't yell at me when I change the fan speed. And cheap.

Cheers.

Has anyone installed, or plan to install an aftermarket head unit? I really want to swap out the crappy factory radio, but unfortunately the stock design does not make it an easy plug and play for a standard double din head unit.
I have the B&O unit and it sounds good to me. Granted, I'm not an audiophile...

Look at the web site Car Play programed in isn't 700, I used that company to program all my features in my M5.

Another option is to get an old Iphone SE(2016) or iphone 6, IOS 14.8 or below, and jailbreak it. Then just use carplayenable to mirror whatever you want to the factory Radio.

Or use Screen2Auto with your current Android phone. YMMV

Is giving us this information about your truck's arrival your way of saying VOXX will be working on a Maverick radio/screen replacement option? Asking for a friend.

No, we're not in that business. The Stinger unit I linked to in my original post, I think, is the best solution for a project like this because the screen is thin and connects to a control module via a single wire similar to the OE radio on the Maverick where the screen connects to the APIM behind the A/C controls. There will be some customization around the bezel installation to hold the screen, but I don't think it will be too difficult.

I'm doing this for a couple reasons that I care about but others may not. First is that the Stinger unit allows for the connection of up to four cameras to give me a nice view around the vehicle as-needed. I'll be able to retain the OE backup camera via simple RCA adapter but then I can add a camera to the front, one on both sides, or maybe a high-mount camera pointing into the bed. Second is that it has an actual HDMI input which I can connect my phone to for the mirroring everyone keeps talking about, but I can also connect a variety of other smart devices like an AppleTV or XBOX. And third is that the unit has video outputs so if I install headrest monitors, or an overhead monitor, I can control the video to them from the dash.

That is intriguing as I do have a number of old phones laying around. I've found the touch response on the factory screen (and most all stereo screens) to be pretty terrible so that makes me a little more apprehensive. I also have an iPad pro 12.9 that I can also put up there, so if I'm parked for a bit or whatever I can have a nice big screen up there.

I have Zero issues with the responsiveness of my screen but do believe the Sync 3 Lariat Lux screen is different than the standard Radio.
