I successfully added Navigation to my Maverick Lariat on Saturday, it actually wasn't all that hard. I first want to thank zackmd1 and the other guys who responded on the "How To: Sync 3/4 swap for non Sync 3 XL/XLT" thread for showing detailed descriptions of how to go about replacing a APIM module.

So I took the plunge and bought a Sync 3.4 APIM from a vendor on eBay. He told me that since he hadn't dealt with anyone trying to install this on a Maverick he couldn't guarantee that it would work but also said if it didn't I could send it back for a full refund. Everything appears to be working so far.

Also got a bonus, it added the climate tab.

Can I ask why you'd want to do this when you have android auto/carplay (which can be made wireless with a relatively inexpensive dongle)? Genuinely curious. Google maps is far superior to any in-car nav system I've ever seen.

android auto is nice, I agree. but if I can do this, I will as well.
while driving I like to listen to audiobooks from my phone but no one else in the car does.
once I plug my phone into the car, the audio plays through the car. I can not seem to get it to play through my earbuds until the phone is unplugged.

I kind of didn't want to repeat what was already posted in the "How To: Sync 3/4 swap for non Sync 3 XL/XLT" thread so if you check that out it will give you details and pictures of how to access the APIM module. The key is to make sure you get a later Sync 3 Gen 4 unit and unless you have Forscan get one from a vendor that will program it with your VIN number (most will). I'd avoid Chinese vendors as these tend to be cheap clones of other types of units. It really was pretty much plug and play, just swap out the units. This doesn't affect things like Sirius/XM or your vehicle settings, it held all my previous settings.

This is the same unit that is in our sister vehicles the Bronco Sport and the Escape.

I was surprised but it does, either from the tab or the dials. My wife has a '22 Bronco Sport and they replaced the temperature control on the dials with the climate tab.

I think it kind of comes down to personal preference. This is something that is debated on not only this forum but some of the other forums I'm in like B6G. Some people like factory Nav and some don't. I have both Google Maps and Sygic and they are fine but I still prefer having the factory Nav, Ford's is actually pretty decent. I had factory Nav on a old Subaru Forester the was absolute junk, so much so I used my Garmin. We travel to the mountains a lot and cell coverage can be iffy at best so I found the factory unit to be more reliable.

Very impressive. Adding it to a long list of upgrades others have posted here.

Ford is going to regret promoting the Maverick as a DIY vehicle, because people are DIYing every high cost option they have at a much lower cost!

Maybe Ford could start a new trend of selling just stripped base vehicles, with everything else sold as a DIY field installed kit. Then you could build the vehicle just the way you wanted it!

Not sure if you knew, but Google Maps can save maps for offline use. They also can be set to Auto update when you do have a cell/Wi-Fi signal.

Ditto! While Waze/Google maps/Apple has been fine for the most part, having that built-in Nav for backup is something I've really missed. Plus it's nice not having to run car play just to figure out how to get around. If this is a relatively simple and affordable thing to do, count me in!

This is like putting a CD player in a new car that doesn't come with one. It's a matter of preference. I like the option of using maps offline. Google maps is fine but it's still cumbersome downloading chunks of maps offline.

Just curious, do you guys with lariat Lux and sync 3. Do you have the power flow app that shows your truck and whether it’s running on battery, engine, etc? My wife’s escape PHEV has it and wanted to know if the Mavs got that with sync 3.

i think you just proved that it can be done. i think ford is just trying to get the Sync 4 out there are start charging for navigation with a monthly fee.
