So when I enter the name of my favorite pizza place, the in-dash nav shows an incorrect address. Doing a web search, the only mapping program that I can find that also has the incorrect business location shown is MapQuest. Honestly, I thought MQ was dead and gone, but still seems to be active.

During a 1500 mile roadtrip from CHI to DC a couple of months ago, I also had my Garmin GPS in use, surprisingly many times the 2 systems did not show the same route.

Not really surprising. The GPS and your Lariat are probably using different biases in the route selection. Navigation is a "traveling salesman" algorithm - I've coded it many times myself. But then you configure your GPS or vehicle to do things like avoid left turns, avoid congestion or construction or back roads. The list of tweaks goes on and on. So very different solutions to the same problem. The most common tweaks are "give me the fastest route" or "give me the shortest route" and "avoid toll highways". This week they might be tweaking to "avoid tropical storms.".

I retired from Garmin after 15 years, the first 12 years in automotive support. I agree with some of the above statements. Navigation depends on current mapping, navigation settings and the system developer. Most systems will get you there if you use some common sense (yes we would get the occasional call come someone that claimed his unit said "turn right" and they drove into a lake. Won't tell you what I thought about those drivers.) My biggest concern is how often are the maps updated? I can't find anything on this. I have a '24 Lariat Hybrid with maps from 2023. And if there are newer maps do we get the updates automatically?

Funny you brought this thread back up. Today I was running westbound on I-90, started the navigation to my destination from about 200 miles out. Posted speed limit of 70, cruise set at 76, and the arrival time kept clicking UP.

Go figure! HRG

Just guessing but assuming your arrival time was getting later, might have traffic information (recent accident causing traffic to back up) and adding that for ETA.

Honestly, I didn't think that the factory OEM navigation was that smart, and aware of traffic tie-ups and construction, etc.

I remember my wife and I were in the Berkshires and I put the Norman Rockwell Museum in my Garmin. Garmin is giving us directions and we end up in the mountains on a dirt road and Garmin announces "you have reached your destination" Wife and I look at each other and just started laughing! I figured the tree cover was messing with the reception. There were a few homes in the area but very spread out. We still laugh about it every time I use the Nav.

I know that Sync 4 systems are but I'm not sure about Sync 3 and earlier systems. I think that Ford uses Here Technologies for there navigation system updates.

I did find this on Fords website regarding updates to the navigation. It appears that Sync 3 and earlier systems have to be updated manually but Sync 4 systems gets navigation updates OTA.
