Adding aftermarket reverse / backup sensors. Can I use the aux. power connectors near the tailgate to power the system? I assume it is switched and always powered when the truck is running.

Also, anyone know if it is better to tap into the reverse light wire at the tail light or the wire from the 4 pin trailer connector?

The truck does not have Blind Spot monitoring or the 7 pin trailer connector.

If you wire into the trailer plug it might disable some things. If you have 360, it will disable rear cross traffic alert for example, because the truck will think you have a trailer attached. Best bet is to tie into the reverse lights, that way they are only active when you are backing up.

Which sensor kit are you going with? I imagine the bed's aux power would be fine as it's tied to ignition and you only need the sensors when the truck is on and moving. Reverse would be the best tap for signal, there's a thread on here about tapping the trailer and bypassing the mode-switch to power LEDs with a separate 4-pin; you might poke around the site for that thread.

I got the EchoMaster Pro (PS-TRUCK-M) kit.

We have had dozens of them installed on our fleet vehicles at work and they seem to be working out well.

4 pin doesn't have a reverse light. I believe that's literally the 3 extra things in 7 pin: trailer brake control, reverse light, and aux power.

I don't think you would actually need to remove a tail light, but I haven't personally done this. I would think that you can access the tail light circuit either under the truck or behind the right rear bed cubby.

Once you find the tail light connector you should either be able to Google a diagram or start testing with a voltmeter, using an assistant to sit in the driver's seat and hold the brakes when they shift to & from Reverse.

Thanks all.
Expecting to have time this weekend to take a look at things and so far it seems pretty straightforward. Really just need to track down the right wire for the reverse lights.

I added reverse sensors and used the tail light on the passenger side. This is on a lariat eco boost. Pretty easy to remove., drop the tailgate and remove the two silver bolts on the sidewall. The light pops out, power wire is kinda yellow, the other two are black. I ran the line under the left side of the truck behind the rear seat. Seemed to be the easiest route. That’s where I put the chime. Hope the photos help

Excellent pics, that's exactly what the OP is trying to do.

Only thing I'm curious about is the vampire (splice) tap. Did that come with your kit? I'd probably solder and cover with heat shrink or electrical tape.

Yea, it came with the kit. I used heatshrink solder connectors for the stuff under the truck. They work great.

Kind of a strange question, has anyone used these types of sensors on the front end? Juding where the front is, is so much harder than the back.
to get the reverse wire, you mean? if you go generic, it would have to intercept from the audio control module. it knows when the truck is in reverse to turn on the backup camera.

it looks like there's an option that plugs into the obd2 port which would make life a lot easier. discussion about it here:

I mean using the sensors themselves on the front bumper to detect how close you are to objects in front, not the back. I guess it would be anoying in traffic though, you'd need to install some kind of switch I suppose.

Edit: Okay, l looked there, there is stuff for the front end.

lol my reply was kind of crazy. you'll need a toggle switch to turn the front sensors on but obviously reverse isn't the right thing to use.
