Is there a speed parameter that also effects the operation of the shutters? I've watched them through the ODB2 reader + the free version of car scanner (works with CarPLay!). I see they modulate based on engine temp, but not sure what else is figured in with the algorithm.

Nice find too bad what ford says here is not true on my 23 ford mav hybrid xlt.

Mine shutter opens to 46% when the temperature is below 38 degrees.
My shutters opens when the coolant get up to 210 degrees.
It does not have a sweet spot to stay open too. It will open to 20% for a while when the temperature reaches 210 degrees, , then close when the coolant drops to 195, then it will open when the temperature climbs back to 210.
The shutter my open further if the outside temperature is warmer.
The shutter opens fully when you have the AC on.
When using remote start, my shutter opens a bit and the coolant fan starts,
Its correct, when you power off the truck the shutter open too 100%, I guess they don't want it to freeze closed at 80 degrees?
I have not seen my shutter act any different when it 40 degrees or 90 degrees.
Mine seems to open and close off coolant temperature and ambient temperature doesn't have that much of a effect on operation.

I like where it said ford removed some slats that helped with over heating,
They remove some slats to move air through the engine compartment to remove any gas or oil fumes that may have accumulated from a leak that may have happened.
I guess it was easier to do that instead of fixing the leaks?
There were fires reported to have happened from gas or oil leaks that could not be vented out.

I wish the truck could be like that in the screen shot.

All this information about shutter and temperature is gathered from "car scanner" app.

I got a ‘23 XLT FX4 and with winter upon us, it’s taking way too long to warm up. As I’m inspecting, I’m noticing the grill shutters aren’t closing when it’s cold. I ran a functions test with a Launch Tool and the shutters will move when commanded. There are no history or stored codes for overheat conditions, thermostat, or grill shutters fault.

Trying to see if anyone’s had similar issues and resolved them before I dropped her off at the dealer for a few days.
welp back to cardboard blockers

Yep! Works good on a 1967 Charger back in the 70's. I had a stuck thermostat and NO heat. Went all winter once with the cardboard. Just keep eye on temp so as not to overheat.

If you had an early Hybrid with the engine recall you would have had a couple of the blades removed and the rest would operate. Of course this probably makes cold weather operation more cold since the ICE engine on the hybrid is running cold because it's not running all the time.
Actually my 24MY hybrid mfg well outside the recall range dates, and after they discovered what the issue was, so one would think no need to mitigate the effects of the recall issue.

Still had the 2 pairs of shutters removed top & bottom.
And they must have already started using the EB undershield that had more holes in it for AWD and other things.

I've been thinking of finding some shutters to insert back in, since the removal process was pretty simple instructions during the early recall efforts.

All mavs have shutters. Mine was built after the recall took effect, so I’m already missing the two. This is definitely something that I’ll need the dealer to look at within the next month/2000mi. As someone else had stated, and what I suspected is I have either a stuck thermostat or a faulty temp sensor that’s not popping a mil.
That's interesting, hadn't heard a comment from an EB owner about the shutters that I can recall.

Since the issue and recall and effect mitigation was for the hybrid engine - I guess Ford did want to mitigate any issues with all engines - or they discovered the total closure of the engine bay just lended itself to effects too negative for any engine.
I guess someone in a turbo could drive it a little hard and throw a rod!

I have a 2022 which Ford removed the bottom 2 rows of shutters for a total of 4 slats ,(2 on each side, I think). My trucks vin number was in the range which had the possibility of the front bearing on ice crank failing causing oil to leak out and accumulating on the air dam (aka skid) plate. The shutters were removed to allow continual air flow across the upper side of the plate to prevent accumulation of fumes and lower the possibilities of fire. Ford also increased ice warranty to ten years and/or 150k(125k?) miles.
