To me it sounds like the steering wheel is rubbing on the cover of the switch controllers. Temperature causes the rubbing to start and stop, just like windshield trim.
Actually there are two sounds. One is kind of shrill and the other is a loud booming rhythmic sound. I am 75 and have owned and driven lots of cars and trucks. I have never before heard anything like this. It actually hurts your ears.
I have a 2022 XLT AWD Maverick. I purchased used used in Sept 2025 with 60K on the odometer. No problems until yesterday. While driving along at 55 mph I heard a light thumping from the rear of the vehicle. It sorta sounded like a wheel out of balance.

This is my 2022 EB in Dec 2025 on I-95 in VA. Video shows the weather, photo shows the "Ice Bra" when I stopped for lunch.
It took 4 days for all of the ice to disappear. No problems noted.
