Active Grill Shutters, issues??

Hey Chops....what do you know about these Active Grill Shutters? Read all kinds of "stuff" about
problems, then how to disable, remove them etc.
I think this was on earlier models...and maybe, mostly Hybrids??

Anyone can surely jump in on this too. I'm hoping my '26 has the past issues..."fixed?"

Mine has them, they seem to work well and they are a great help in the cold weather. They cover both the radiator and intercooler. My only concern is if they could freeze up with a heavy accumulation of slush and cause overheating, but so far they have been working perfectly.

have a MY22, zero issues. I wouldn't expect any issue. drive it like ya stole it and have fun! life's too short to worry about everything, it'll just put you in the grave earlier....

I've no idea if my active shutters work or not as it's difficult to see them from inside the truck.

My 2022 Hybrid was supposed to have one or two shutters surgically removed as part of a recall, something about preventing engine fires, but my dealer chose not to and I didn't argue too much.

Oh, I'm not worrying. Just curious about new things with my new '26 Lobo. If you don't ask,
then you don't know, you don't learn and you don't grow! I'm past 70 so I KNOW life is short!!

I love the car world...yes trucks and SUV's, plus motorcycles in my past. When you've owned approx. 75 vehicles and 48 new ones, you learn by owning and asking questions. Never to late to learn and work the brain.

So, OleFordGuy....I've owned 12 Mustangs, all V-8's, 2 Rangers, and this Maverick. So, that's 15
Fords. And I'm "older"....so I guess I'm an Older than You Ford Guy. LOL!!

Thsee shutters Ave been on Ford vehicles for many years. Don’t try to fix something that’s not broken. They work automatically to regulate engine bay temperature. Like someone said, just drive it.

I'd be very curious on problems with the shutters that got into disabling or removing them as a solution.

There was a potential problem with range of hybrids, that to mitigate the effects 2 pairs of shutters were removed to keep enough air flow thru the engine bay.

Ford must have thought it was a good idea because it sounds like they kept producing them that way long after the problem range was gone.

Be curious if your 26MY shows the bottom 2 shutters gone on the upper and lower areas.

Not trying to fix anything! Again...curious, asking questions. Some folks go overboard with
responses assuming I'm ripping apart my shutters.....gee whiz....come on now.

good deal, I get ya point. there's some looking for something to be wrong, so i misjudged, my bad. we're pretty close in stage of life. I haven't had 75 vehicles but I've had a very similar assortment as you. a recent favorite was the 2011 5.0 gt mustang - tons of fun.

I've owned multiple Fords with grille shutters for 14 years and haven't had any issues with them. One of those vehicles has accumulated 155K miles.

A couple days ago is was 36 degrees. When I started the truck up the ice engine immediately came on. I jumped out to look and the shutters were closed. When you turn it off they should open up to prevent them from freezing closed.

I don’t know squat

I counted 8 on the grille (excuse my French) and 5 on the lower intercooler. I have crappy eyesight though!

Note that my Lobo was built with the wrong radiator - standard 2K tow instead of 4K tow radiator. I have until August to get it swapped out under warranty.

Waiting for the new truck smell to fade & the first ding/dent before leaving the truck at the dealer to do the radiator upgrade.

Both have now happened - so it is just procrastination that is keeping me from bringing her in.

There is an intercooler upgrade as part of the 300T Performance Package - wonder if the shutters down there will remain the same. Probably I guess!
