Yes I can hear phone call. Blower stays at lower setting but I can reset it to original speed while conversing. It will then stay at that speed as if nothing happened.

Ref Owner's manual (sync 3):

Note: Depending on the current climate control settings,
the fan speed may automatically go down while issuing voice commands or while making and receiving phone calls via SYNC to reduce the amount of background noise in the vehicle.

The fan speed will automatically return to normal operation once the voice session ends.
You can adjust the fan speed during a voice session,
simply press the fan buttons (or turn the fan knob) to increase or decrease the fan speed to the setting you prefer.

To disable this automatic fan speed reduction feature during voice sessions,
press and hold the climate control AC and Recirculated air buttons simultaneously, release and then increase fan speed within 2 seconds.

To re-enable this feature, repeat the above sequence.

These new vehicles have so many little features that it's hard to keep track of how things are supposed to work. I tend to prefer old school manual systems instead of computer controlled nanny stuff but that's just me. It is convenient to have it turn down the fan for you though.

If AC is on and I receive a phone call the blower speed decreases. What's going on?
Every vehicle I’ve owned in the last five years does this it’s to reduce background noise for the voice operation and the phone call itself. I think you could switch it off but why would you want to?

No offense to the OP, but this is another very sophisticated - and unnecessary - provision that Ford provides that the owner DOESN'T EVEN KNOW EXISTS! Why the hell can't Ford leave these dumb-ass things off the truck and put on Cruise Control? Ford is to the stage now where they are shooting themselves in the foot!!! I hate to think what will be on the 2025 and 2026 models. Probably something to do with toilet paper. Oh God, I swoon.

Old man yells at cloud...were you perhaps on CNN at a debate last night?
My old Cruze would even turn down the AC when I received a call. That was a 2011. Also the new XL's come with Cruise Control (so that problem WAS fixed). I love all the options.

My wife's 2016 Ford escape does the same thing.
On side note it's amazing what the owner/operating manual actually contains.
Most people it seems can't be bothered to look at it.

Reading is hard after all. If only there was an index at the end of the manual to make it easier to find information. We can dream.

I think the feature is clever, and I'm a big fan of RTFM, but for the record:

* This feature is only mentioned on page 410 that I can find - which is in the Sync 3 section. XL/XLT owners really have no reason to be looking there unless they are just gluttons for punishment.

* The ONLY index entry that refers to page 410 is "Entertainment." Not exactly something I would find helpful, especially when I turned to see a Sync system I don't even have.

For anyone determined to negate this feature, from page 410:
"To disable this automatic fan speed reduction feature during voice sessions, press and hold the climate control AC and Recirculated air buttons simultaneously, release and then increase fan speed within 2 seconds. To re-enable this feature, repeat the above sequence."

Again, this is from the Sync 3 manual section that applies to Lariats, so I have no clue if it works on XL/XLT.
