Sure you don't have Auto pushed also?
In which case your selection of fan speed is actually a range you might say, where the auto can adjust the actual speed within that range.

or....
You also could be getting the effect of high humidity reading and so it's running the AC a bit more to confirm you won't have an issue.
Is it louder because it's actually defrost vent routing also, not your selection of say just upper?

or...
You have some glitches in some modules.
Ever left the AC engaged when you turned the truck off on park, and you still hear a fan running on exit, maybe later on short return?
May need that ACCM upgrade.

Got any active recalls for any systems?
Sometimes those module upgrades take care of other little issues that weren't upgrades, but TSB's or SSM's if you had the specific issue. That may apply.

For sure figure it out to exactly get it to kick off, what conditions are required - or a dealer visit will likely be a waste of time.

HAL will decide what fan speed you need.

😱
Real life suggestion.
Put your a/c in auto mode, select one of three auto mode fan speeds, select your temperature and forget about it.

You are not alone…mine does the same thing. Not on Auto, usually on a run longer than an hour or so. It just cranks up the AC. There are lots of theories, but the dealer can’t figure it out, and I’ve learned to live with it. I usually hit the defrost button to redirect it so it doesn’t blow away the passengers…

Probably detecting humidity and trying to keep that at bay.

It's an advanced technology feature for your comfort and convenience.

Ford's R&D is sure you'll love it.
Yup…I’ll be sure to tell them how super convenient the Auto-Freeze feature is. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«. I think the de-humidify idea is probably correct…I just wish it didn’t crank up the fan so much….

It also cranks it down if your phone rings. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø
