I understand you like it and you have what you want. I am simply saying that like my other cars, I can put them knob once in auto headlight mode and never touch it again. You are getting what YOU want. I am not. So not sure why anyone has an issue. Imagine for a minute the opposite. Not just you, I mean all the other people that have posted how much they like not having to turn them on. Imagine you want something and Ford doesn't give the option. Imagine the Maverick had auto headlights on but you had turn the knob to the Auto headlight setting every single time you start the car.

Also imagine you want you AC on on all the time 7/24, even when freezing or windows down because you want to burn more gas but you had go to the screen and turn it on it on every single time you start the car. It does not remember your choice.

Just try to imagine that for a minute.
I’m trying to imagine that I cared enough about this, but my imagination isn’t that good.

For your HVAC it’s in the settings. It has to do the remote start feature. There are 2 settings. Automatic, which will set your air conditioner or heat, heated seats and heated steering wheel depending on outside temperature. Then there is the ā€œlast setā€ setting. That will start your truck with all the HVAC controls on the last setting when you turn off the ignition. It was bothering me that all the heat was coming on when I started my Maverick when I purchased it so I changed the setting to ā€œlast setā€.

In the big scheme of things it wouldn't bother me in the least. I woke up today with no dirt over me, food to eat, a home to live in, and relatively good health. This is is just pissing and moaning over nothing of value. If you were told today you have a fatal disease would you waste your time on this?

I already turned off auto headlights, since day one. I want my headlights on/off switch to work like it does on my 5 other cars. If you put it in AUTO, it stays in Auto. If you put it in OFF, it stays in OFF. It is as simple as that. If you want AUTO headlights on all the time, you get that but just leaving it in AUTO but it reverts to AUTO for me every time the car wakes up and in the newer cars, the same with AC, it reverts to AC on all the time.
I suggest you SELL the Maverick NOW!

I do not like my headlights coming on when I start, I want to be in control of my vehicle, I am the driver don`t need Mommy to wipe me or turn my lights on. Not sure about the A/C but its a comfort feature so Ford don`t know my comfort temps, I will find a way to fix

XLT FX4...I wonder now if the XL without the luxury package might not do that. If I would've known, I wouldn't have gotten the package. I didn't want luxury package, it was mandatory to get FX4 Package which I did want.
The XL does it too. As I've said in the past, #keeplaststate ... it shouldn't be hard to program as my other cars accomplished it. For me it is a minor inconvenience, but has made starting the car a multi step process.

Yes, startup is unpleasant now but what is weird is that it doesn't have to be. If Ford simply let people pick AUTO or Manual headlights and have it stick and AUTO and manual AC and have stick. Everyone would be happy.

Throw in the fact people get out of the habit of turning their lights on during rain, or other times it's really needed.

Ha! I don't think that many did anyway, hence highway signs saying lights required with wipers on. Not enough room on sign to explain to goofballs why - for the OTHER drivers to see you!

At least the Mav attempts that with wipers on during times of enough light - driving lights still come on.
Unless you use RainX and don't need wipers on.

Too many people have sadly shown that driving is their 2nd or 3rd priority while doing it - and assuming they know enough about driving they don't need to know the specifics of their vehicle. The number that would remember to switch back to auto because they can't remember to do manual correctly... ?
Son and I have fun noting how many very newer cars that we are sure have auto-on are driving with lights off, but their dashboard on (used to be dashboard off - idiots) - which is what is probably fooling them. Not ever DRL, though that helps the illusion of being alright.
We have street lights all over the place, so not awful. Our trip to NY with city driving for food/gas at night - didn't realize how many places don't do street lights, shoot barely parking lot lights for that matter.

I wouldn't be surprised if the current system is a testing stage for some requirement coming down.

Would a system that instead alerted the driver in some major way (annoying sound or full dashboard lights), or preventing driving until headlights on, be better?

I'm glad Canada took away the ability to turn the lights off.
I'm glad as well up here in Canada. My only complaint is that the tail lights are not on!
If you do not have Auto then the headlights especially around town look to be on, but
but you have no tail lights! Can not count the number of times I have noticed this.

In general I like it, but once I was driving in fog and it decided to switch to high beams.

Contacted Ford as suggested about and got into a chat. They gave me 3 suggestions that I'll look into. Hoping for the best.

Copied from the chat -

Here is how to disable the automatic AC and take full manual control:

  1. Turn Off "Auto" Mode
The most common reason the AC stays on is that the system is in Auto mode. In this mode, the truck will constantly run the AC compressor to maintain the specific temperature you have set on the digital readout (e.g., 72 ∘ ).

How to fix: Look at the climate bar at the bottom of your touchscreen. If the word "AUTO" is highlighted or has a lit indicator, tap it to turn it off.
The Result: This puts the system in "Manual" mode, allowing you to choose fan speed and vent location without the computer deciding to use the AC.

  1. Check the "Defrost" Vent Setting (The Most Likely Culprit)
Ford vehicles are programmed to automatically engage the AC compressor whenever the airflow is directed toward the windshield (Defrost). This is designed to dehumidify the air and prevent fogging. Even if you don't press the "AC" button, the compressor will run in the background if the defrost vents are active.

How to fix: In the climate menu on your screen, ensure the airflow is set to "Panel" (blowing at your face) or "Floor" (blowing at your feet).
The Result: Avoid any setting that includes the windshield icon (the curved window shape) if you want the AC compressor to stay completely off.

  1. Disable "Auto AC" in the Settings
On the 2025 Maverick, there is a specific software toggle that can trigger the AC based on the temperature difference between the cabin and your set point.

How to fix:
Tap the Climate icon at the bottom of the Sync 4 screen to open the full-screen climate menu.
Ensure the A/C button is explicitly tapped "Off" (it should not be highlighted).
Check if Recirculation is on. If you turn on Recirculation, the truck will often turn on the AC to prevent the cabin air from getting "stuffy" or humid. Keep it on "Fresh Air" (recirculation off) while your windows are open.

  1. Remote Start Settings (If you use it)
If you use the FordPass app or your key fob to remote start the truck, the Maverick may be cooling the cabin before you even get in.

How to fix: Go to Settings > Vehicle > Remote Start > Climate Control.
Change to: Switch from "Auto" to "Last Settings." This ensures that if you turned the AC off before you parked, it stays off when you start it back up.

Pro-Tip for Window-Down Driving:
If you want the fan to blow fresh outside air without the AC, simply:
Turn AUTO off.
Turn A/C off.
Set the vents to Panel/Floor.
Set the temperature to "LO" or a moderate temp.
