$40 navigation update worth it?

If you use Google Maps then don't spend the money for a Ford navigation update.

I'm using Google maps on my Android phone.
Works great, traffic issues and speed traps pop up regularly and seem to be real.

It's a bargain compared to the $100 plus GM charges.
Is it worth it to you? You can use Waze or Google Maps at no cost.

Ford maps updates in the US are free for the first 3 years with Sync 3

In my past vehicles I have paid to update the built in nav maps even though I primarily use Apple Maps and CarPlay. i Just like knowing I have current built in maps if I’m ever on a place where I have no cell coverage and therefore no AppleMaps. i may be a little OCD though.

My truck came with the NA 2 21 map version. I updated to the latest map NA 2 22. I still find some newer streets and addresses are missing, though.

Ford told me the next version of the map would be out around August, and that I would receive an e-mail when that happened.

My main complaint of using sync 3 over Android Auto is not soley for the navigation shortcomings, but moreso voice commands and sending/receiving texts. I feel Android is way ahead in those departments. I just wish Android Auto could display the current radio station. That is available in the center cluster, but I like to view trip data and MPG there.

I personally would still update the Sync 3 map for the same reason TNFurb mentions.

I thought it was only $40 if you wanted it preprogrammed on a USB stick and sent to you, and was free if you downloaded yourself? Atleast for the free trail period?

It is a big file and takes along time to download. $40 might be worth the convienence and to know it is correct.

You can enable trip/audio MYVIEW screen in forscan. It lets you see the name of the song and trip info at the same time. Works with playing music through android auto or apple CarPlay

I like waze better then any other mapping system It's more interactive than the rest of them seems more up to date when it tells you about police and traffic ahead, plus you can see how many people ahead of you using it that kind of gives me a better idea of accuracy.

Is there a way to get the speed sign on the cluster? I looked through ALL the CP 360 + CP 360 Assist screen and in the owner's bible but nothing...

Enable TSR (Traffic Sign Recognition) in forscan! It works on the 4 inch and the 6.5 inch as long as you have CP360. I am not sure why ford doesn't do this from the factory. TSR is actually more accurate than apple or google maps because it reads the actual road signs rather than relying on map software updates to correct speed limit sign display. It is one of the most useful forscan mods I have done and its super easy!

you can also enable turn by turn nav directions on your cluster through forscan.

Google speed traps are real if drivers are there and are flagging speed traps. I never have used Ford Nav.

Google Maps Offline maps option is great. It has even told me that cell service is spotty along my chosen route and asks if I would like to download the route for offline use. Navigtion works offline, but of course, traffic, speed traps and road hazards do not.

It lets you select what kind of vehicle you have, like Electric, Hybrid or ICE. If arrival times are similar, it will suggest the most fuel efficient route, based on your vehicle type.

After the County I live in changed my rural house number and road name, Google automatically updated my address on their map service within 2 weeks of the change. I fought with apple for almost two years, trying to get them to correct it. Friends & family reported it repeatedly, but no change. Service companies could not find my house during that time if they used apple maps. I would not trust apple maps - ever.

Thanks EONR24 - I was hoping there was a way to enable TSR on the speedo cluster [where it SHOULD be] without resorting to forscan.
